They are going to give Puempel every chance to make this team, although I am not sure he deserves it.

My bold prediction is that by around January Ryan Dzingel grabs the last spot on the 4th line. With an aging Kelly and a slow Neil, the Sens desperately need some speed on the 4th line. Dzingel is the fastest of the fringe guys and he seems gritty enough to fit in.

I can honestly see him making a nice little career for himself as a bottom 6 player.

Hoff - Turris - Stone
Mac - Brass - Ryan
Smith - JGP - Lazar
Puemple - Kelly - Paul
Dzingel - Pyatt - Neil

Methot - Karlsson
Phaneuf - Ceci
Seidenberg - Wideman
Claesson - Kostka

Give Chabot his 8-9 games in NHL, dominate Qmjhl/ world juniors.

Umm..... good lines man, but does anyone forget how good Boro has been for this team. I'm not saying he's been a top 4D by any stretch, but his character and physical play alone make him a good player to have in the line up. The problem with this team 2 out of the past 3 years is loosing Methot and lacking support on that left side. I mean, just look at the line up without phanuef and methot (which has been the case for many games over the past few years):

Wiercioch - Karlsson
Borowieci - Ceci
who the hell cares

the problem isn't the top 4 anymore.... it's partly Methot's health ability to have NHL D-men. I know I said it before but I wished they signed L Schenn. Hoping that Wideman has a bigger year

Dark horse for the 12th forward spot on opening night: Buddy Robinson.

Team liked the size in a very short audition last season, I'd have to think that a 4th line with him and Kelly and Neil would be more effective than playing a guy like Dzingel or Puempel there because those guys aren't really built to be checking line wingers. Also, I really think Paul needs a full season in the AHL.

So yeah, if it's not Pyatt (who was conspicuous by his absence here), then my pick for the 4LW spot out of camp is Buddy Robinson.

I am all for grit and character, but players with an abundance those attributes need to be able be to focus them in a controlled way. One of the most problematic areas for the Senators over the past 5 seasons has been taking too many penalties. Boro has been a large contributor to this issue when he as been in the line up, as has Chris Neil, the other grit/character guy. Last season their penalty minute totals accounted for 30% of the team's overall total.

The Sens PIM totals have been trending in the right direction over the past two seasons and I really hope that continues. The best way I can think of to do that is keep guys like Boro(and Neil) out of the line up as much as possible.

My bold prediction for the opening season D-pairs are:

Karlsson - Methot
Phaneuf - Chabot
Wideman - Ceci

Funny how the "surprises" will be marginal 4th liners that probably wouldn't make any other NHL team.

The "surprise" will likely be the lack of true depth on the blueline. Sorry. Boro is awful and Wideman struggled to take a big step last year. A move for a d-man will likely be made around the time the season starts. Hopefully.

I still think we lack fire power up front. We have two good lines, but the consistency will likely be an issue with that group of player. Stone perhaps can take a step to becoming a star.

Talk about guys like Puemple, Dzingel, Pyatt, Robinson, etc all you want, but they won't be turning this team into a contender. The fact they are fighting for NHL spots should demonstrate that we still have a ways to go to being a contender.

I'm not sure why you say this group is locked in. They all still have something to prove under a new Coach/GM.

I think it makes more sense to see Ceci with Phanuef and Chabot on the left side where he belongs. But yes, I like that prediction and it would be AWESOME to see Chabot playing in october
