Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Jacob Markstrom Steps in, Troy Stecher Making His Case Jacob Markstrom shone as a last-minute starter for Team Sweden in their 2-1 win over Team Russia on Sunday at the World Cup of Hockey, and Troy Stecher looks like he's gunning hard for a chance to surprise and break onto the Vancouver Canucks main roster after a strong showing at Young Stars.

Thanks Carol,

Great blog as per usual, hopefully Markstrom gets to stay as the starter.

Ha!

That's actually a typo. I meant "precocious," though I suppose precious isn't too far off either, in terms of how their teams are feeling about them right now.

Fixed now...

I think it's wise for JB to state that Miller is the starter and quash any rumours about yet another goal-tending controversy.

That is the last thing we need (publicly).

Once the season starts, unless Miller completely sh!its the bed, you play them both (while deferring to Miller as the '#1') and allow Miller to leave and Markstrom to take over after this season.

there is no need to rush Markstrom or risk upsetting Miller (we all know goalies have fragile ego's).

im sure he could give it a shot at LW but his ability is pretty limited so lets not confuse the guy by having him have to deal with more difficulty playing on his off hand

I see LW as the position that we need all the help we can get at the moment.
...paging Evander Kane...

i suppose signing a RW'er to a PTO is more likely about stats than a likely solution...

I'm glad Carol saw the game pretty much the same as I did with Garteig, Cassels and Stecher all showing well...

and from the last blog good to know the actual game stars of the NA versus Finland game were who I thought they should be as well... though Sportsnet showed their bias based on their owner and what its interests are in the its 3 star selection...

no one knows if Evander will end up in jail or what... so you can page him all you want, he's probably not allowed to answer based on the case against him...

Actually agree with this. Don't put more crap on the fire than need be. We all know (and Benning does) that Markstrom will most likely be the guy soon enough...let it play out with as little of that goaltender controversy crap as possible.

The announcement of Miller as the defacto number 1 better be strategy for building his trade value for the trade deadline after last year debacle
