Peter Tessier: On Laine, Schiefele, & the Millennial Massacre There's much to learn but let's not draw too many conclusions about Laine and his game after the Millennial Massacre last night.

In my opinion, which makes no difference to those who make the decisions, Laine would benefit more from a full rookie/training camp than a tournament and abbreviated camp. Getting acclimated to the Jets' system/coaches/players seems like it would serve him better than a 2-week tournament. Just my two cents.

Edit: This goes for any other rookie in this tournament, which may or may not be only Matthews.

Not worried about Laine at all...yet!
18 years old and this is a big stage to learn and grow in. This is a star packed short tourney that is being played in a fish bowl so it will be interesting to see how he finishes the tourney vs. last night's game.

Trouba not playing but plenty of young compariable d-men on the ice? Compariable in years, age and what they are worth! Not a good time for he and his agent.

The fact that Torteralla dressed his own man Dubinsky but couldn't get Buff in the line up is a joke. Small ice surface for an international tourney?? I think Buff could scare some players?

As much, as as a leaf fan I'd love to be singing the praises of team NA and Austin Mathews, something just didn't seem right last night.

If very much felt as if the Fins we're playing tentative, almost as if someone has told all these guys not to touch the rookies. Kind of like playing pond hockey against your baby brother. Your not aloud to get rough with him.
The result was an all star game-esk feel, where guys like Mathews, Sheifle and McDdavid could do what they wanted, free of repercussion.

I would withhold judgement on Patrick Laine until the Sweden game. In this game you'll seem him play real tough Finnish hockey with men against men.

No there were hits. Team NA's speed just seemed to overwhelm the Fins. Finland is usually the team in these tournament that seems to be flying out there and not giving up on any pucks. But the role's were reversed last night. I'm sure Finland will right the ship and teams will come better prepared against NA.

Probably worth noting that the Laine-Barkov-Aho line is as young or younger than any line Team North America threw out there.
