Nobody should be shocked by this result.

From a talent/matchup standpoint, USA were certainly favored. Was it inconceivable that Europe could beat them? No not really. If Halak doesn't have nearly the game he does, or if this is a best of 7 series, I think this is a very different story

When I look at how badly they have constructed this roster and all the ridiculous decisions their coach has made, I don't find it shocking either. I considered team Europe the favorite in this game, even though technically I know they weren't.

Was like watching the twilight zone - kept waiting for the US to pull it together - but alas.. it was not to be - another dog like this one and that will be it - Team Europe just played a very solid game and the bottom lines they have really outplayed the US - and for the life of me cannot figure out how KP and big Buff are scratched -

But what were the shot totals? When the US beat Canada it was considered luck. Europe wasn't lucky?

Pretty sure the yanks outshot em and they totally controlled the 2nd.

Europe played a defensive counterpunch game. Pretty typical when you're the inferior team overall.

I think it's less of an indictment of the yanks being bad than it is Europe played smart as well as anyone can win in a one game scenario. And it's not like Europe is a brutal team and the yanks should be embarrassed or something.

I am as red white and blue as they come but my heart told me to root for Team Europe. Way to many jackwagons on the US side

There was little sustained pressure by the US. It was one and done. This is not a team built on speed and skill. If they get down by a goal or two it will be near impossible for them to come back. The D lacks the mobility and speed to drive the offense. The forwards are not a high scoring speedy bunch either. Throw in a caveman coach named Torts and there you are, a crappy team.

Well, look at the Canadian roster and then look at the USA roster and tell me how often you think the USA is going to beat the Canadians - so yes, if they do win, it's pretty lucky.

So a team that wins getting out shot 38 to 17 isn't lucky?

No, cause Corsi! Even if that argument does not apply... At all!

Team Europe went in this tournament knowing that they are going to lose Corsi every game. They had a game plan and executed it and also had amazing goaltending by Halak. Team Europe played great considering it.

No, they weren't. Until the 3rd period, when it was virtually over, not many of those shots were very dangerous. Canada had a lot of those Grade A scoring chances. The only reason the US won that game because Price was incredibly shaky to start. Put a goaltender anywhere near the top of his game against this US team and what you got yesterday was the inevitable result.

Overall in a seven game series you will take the performance USA put out 9 times out of 10. Because they won't likely lose 3-0 every time.

But in a single game, you have to ditch corsi and shot totals because...well...just like that game you could run into a hot goalie that changes all of that.

Just one of those things. Doesn't make the advanced stats any more or less valuable. The sample is just too small to actually place any value on it in that instance. It is selective analysis sometimes though to apply them in that manner, and sometimes we are guilty of doing so.
