I'm pretty sure Perron is a righty and I think I read the plan is to put him on RW. It would make sense to try it out, can always switch it up if it doesnt work.

Capfriendly shows 48 contracts, with Kyrou, Musil & Opilka being exempt from the 50 contract cap limit so room for Svoboda & 1 more.

I'm struggling with the current Blues roster for next season. The issue for me being does Steen play C or LW? With the Svoboda issue still unresolved Stastny & Lehtera both natural C's there appears to be a need for Steen to play C. That said the line of Schwartz; LW, with Lehtera; C, & Tarasenko; RW, has had some great success at times in the last 2 years & it doesn't make sense for Steen to play on the 3rd line as a C or a LW. Berglund may be better suited to that role or Lehtera.

My current assumption.

Schwartz, Steen, Tarasenko.
Fabbri, Stastny, Perron.
Berglund, Lehtera, Jaskin.
Upshall, Brodziak, Reaves.
Spare. Paajarvi.

I assume a good portion of the top 9 less Berglund will move around quite a bit & that Upshall, Reaves & Paajarvi all rotate in & out playing a similar # of games each depending upon the competition & injuries.

Although Steen has generally played far more LW in recent years with Backes at C, he often played C with Backes at RW & it appears baring a return of Svoboda he is slated to play C this season out of need.

Stastny & Fabri had great chemistry & I can't see breaking up that pairing but with Hitchcock still at the helm anything is possible.

To address your RW issue. Those are the Blues RW's. Paarjarvi can play either side & as Rattie has waiver rights this season the Blues either make room for him or I assume he will be claimed on waivers if a trade isn't made to solve the problem. Not sure anyone is claiming Paarjarvi or Reaves.

Obligatory "plan the parade" comment...

Unless the Blues can organize a sign and trade with Shatty, I can't imagine anything interesting on the trade front. Sobotka jacked up his shoulder, so there's that...

PTO- Steve Bernier? Gaustad? Definitely not younger and faster...

It strikes me that this season is a "protect your core from the expansion draft" season.

Not much out there, unless Shattenkirk finally becomes motivated to sign a deal instead of playing free agency...

Anyone who brings Tuomo Ruutu in, even on a PTO should probably not work in the NHL. Guy was completely done last year and put up 0 goals and 1 assist in 33 games.

I'd argue that he has more left in the tank than RJ Umberger. There's a reason he earned the nickname "Corpseburger." That said, if you guys need a natural RW, we are having a blowout sale on all of our pre-owned Matt Read's.

I'm a bit curious what the argument would be considering he put up 2 goals and 9 assists in with an glowing +1 in 39 games vs. Tuomo's 0 goals and 1 assist in 33 games with a -7; but I'm sure we can agree neither of these guys are the answer for the Blues or anyone else. Matt Read you say???? Pretty low mileage... ok (just another reason I'm not a GM).

Perron shoots right but i think he has always played left wing. Checked a handful of sites this am and they all list him as left wing.

You might be right about them trying him there but seems a bit odd to sign him only to try and change how he plays at age 28.5.

Interesting. I'll have to try and merge the sites to see where the differences are. Thanks

It wasn't his stats, it was just his play. He was by far the slowest player on the team, he can't win a 50/50 battle, and his goals were of the "How the hell did that go in???" variety. He literally offered nothing but a warm body than can put on skates and carry a stick. But yes, neither should be part of a contending team.

Yeah, Read has 1 year left, and is a nice bottom-6 player who is a top-notch PKer. Just not what the Flyers need with the direction they're going.

Read for MPS?

We will throw in Reaves to sweeten the deal and you guys throw in a pick as Read has this year and next at $3.6 cap hit

that's high

"Throwing in" Reaves is not a deal sweetener. Also, if it's between Read and MPS, I'd much rather have Read despite the admittedly high cap hit.

I'd love to see how steve downie does in a PTO. He's got the grit and the fearlessness the blues need right now after losing brouwer and backes.... hes got offensive ability too....

Kessler can't make that hit but Weber puts himself in a terrible spot by not actually skating and retrieving the puck. If Weber skates and gets the puck he is turned and Kessler staples him against the boards, likely hitting him from the side while he is upright against the boards. Players put themselves in bad spots all the times and I wonder how much of it has to do with knowing that if Kessler hits him there he knows he likely gets a big call for his team. Weber saw him coming, chose not to go get the puck because he knows he would have had a good chance of being separated from it. He knows its a better team play to pull up short and play it that way imho. Agree? Disagree?
