I think the projection for Rakell's contract $(3.5M - $4M) is a bit high.
If you look back at what Murray has given on bridge contracts you are at about half that.
Vatanen - $1.25M for 2 years
Silf - $850K for 1 year
From what most articles have said, it sounds more like Rakell will get a bridge contract and Lindholm will get a longer contract (though it wouldn't be surprising if Hampus gets a bridge contract as well to buy Murray more time). |

It's a gamble to play the short game on Rakell. He is worth a 4 or 5 year deal now. |

I think the ducks and leafs are bound to make a deal fairly soon. They both seem to have pieces that can help each other out and with the leafs probably not being a playoff team this year they could help the ducks out by taking a bad contract.
Don't destroy me over this but I think something around the lines of
JVR, kapanen and either another prospect or high pick for;
Lindholm and stoner
Obviously I doubt this would get it done for TO cause lindholm is amazing and the leafs seem content with their d trying out for spots but it's a start.

Ed, did you take into account Bernier's contract? His entire cap hit is on the Ducks, however, Toronto paid 2.0M of the hit on July 1, PRIOR to the trade. That's 2.0 million I believe that we're not paying. That will, or should, allow us to adjust our spending accordingly.
Please correct if I'm wrong. |

Hey Ed . It's good to hear from yah . Anyhow . I've perty much given up on the idea of getting a good left wing . But just too have fun I'll play fantasy GM and ask if you think trading Lindholm for Nikita kucheroff of the tampa bay lighting would be a good idea . I think it would really shake things up for both teams . And it would definitely make both teams more prepared for the expasion draft . |

Well . We aren't keen on trading lindholm . So to get him we would need a stud left winger . And alot of people here do like jvr . But to me he is as good as he is going to get . And jvr isn't a stud . So I'd have too say no . |

I agree with your budgetary comments on the Ducks. If the Ducks make a trade they aren't going to be for useful players coming back. If Cam gets moved it's going to be for a pick or a really young prospect who won't play for the Ducks this year.
Every time I think about what's going on with Hampus and Rickard and then you realize they signed Jared f@cking Boll for $900K, my head wants to explode! Right there is an extra million for a player who's going to help you win now and in the future. |

Boll - Jared Boll that signing is just beyond the pale .. Along w/ these other moves / Raymond / Vermette .. Murray doing everything but what he should be doing -
Ducks finally have what everyone across the league agrees is a absolute stud D man and they can't seem to realize how good they have it - RR another gem that they seem intent on pissing off - ... I just don't understand it... aggravating your young core .. They do a great job scouting these 2 and snagging them in the draft & now seem likely to squander it - |

I understand the frustration with RR and Lindholm not being signed yet, BUT, Murray did say both would be signed sometime in August or September. Those were his words. I heard them personally. So, until we get to September 30 with neither signed, I'm not going to press the panic button. Am I reaching for it? Of course, but it's still only the 8th of September. Those 2 aren't the only RFA's unsigned (in the league). I'm willing to give Murray the benefit of the doubt, for now. |

Some of you are quick to think they will trade Fowler. However, I believe he will the be odd man out. I saw a trade involving JVR on this thread. Lindholm wont be going anywhere. Only way that happens is if we get blown away by a deal.
If we trade we made another deal with the leafs, JVR would be the guy coming back. I could see a deal like Fowler, Stoner and a decent prospect for JVR, Hunwick (to replace Stoner) and a pick. That would free up around $1.8 mil for the ducks and they would still have a 7th D-man.
Lets not forget we have Despres. His $3.7 mil could be attractive to some..... if his concussions clear up.

i'd be fine with something close to that … though I think the leafs might be able to grind you guys down on the price some. Seems like you guys need to make a move.
not sure most leaf fans would be though.

Nah, it's still Murray, the Carlyle hiring would have been your first clue. Carlyle and Murray are big time bed buddies. |

Good Read Ed. I can understand everyone's frustration. Nevertheless, I have faith in Bob Murray to resign the two Swedes. I've talked about this before, and I'll say it again. Two years ago, this team had a lot of players on their ELC that could be entitled to a pay raise in the near future. The main ones being: Palmieri, Silfverberg, Despres, Smith-Pelly, Sekac, Vantanen, Lindholm, Belesky, Etem, Gibson, Andersen and Manson. As that crop of prospects has matured, I think this management team has done well. The only complete wash is the Etem trade. It was tough to watch Belesky and Palmieri walk, but where is the money to keep these guys? Belesky and Palmieri or Lindholm and Rakell?
BM works very hard and he knows better than anyone what's at stake. My armchair GM stance is he's shopping Fowler, and is going to make it a two horse race between Manson and Despres for the final protection slot for the expansion draft.
Could Carlyle bring life back to Fowler's game? Perhaps, but the numbers (financially) are not there.
Personally, I like the roster that's being dressed now, as opposed to the start of last season. There was too much fat on last year's roster, and it showed in the crunch. The stupid penalties need to be worked on. The Ducks are a league worst at -500 minors over the past decade. That needs to be worked on. Getzlaf, Perry and Kesler interact with the refs the most, and time and time again they're getting the short end of the stick.
Champions don't rely on refs for calls. It's that simple. Cut it out! |
