Terrible deal for the Coyotes on all fronts
Even if Bolland is LTIR, They will still have to pay him the 1 million per year or so that insurance doesn't cover. If he was going to be LTIR, then Florida should have just kept him
Assuming he actually comes back (which is probably Florida's fear), then the yotes will be paying 5.5 million per in actual cash to a guy who is a terrible hockey player
And for their trouble they gave up a 2nd and a 3rd (likely high picks) for Crouse, who by all accounts is probably worth a 2nd and a 3rd alone
Florida knows something that the 27yo Chayka doesn't. It's probably that Crouse sucks and Bolland will probably return someday
Not enough upside from the Coyotes that mitigate those risks
Should have been Bolland and Crouse for a conditional 7th |

even so Crouse isnt exactly a high end prospect he's certainly more worthy than a 7th rounder...

except the high pick is the lowest of their thirds and if he doesnt play the 2nd becomes a 3rd. It really isnt that much risk. Good trade for both |

The only part I dont like about the deal is the extent to which the Coyotes are using capspace as an asset. Its not illegal, and certainly they are using that power to acquire assets, but it rubs me the wrong way to have a team be near the salary cap and spending actual cash which is on par with the salary floor when you take out Pronger/Datsyuk/Bolland's LTIR (at least it is the salary floor). I dont like seeing teams in other sports being so cheap, so seeing another deal happening with the Coyotes just sours me |

It's the risk associated if Bolland actually plays and paying him 16.5 million in actual cash over the next 3 years to do so
If there's all this confidence that 'He won't play, he's gonna go LTIR", then why wouldn't Florida just keep him and Crouse and stash the cap hit for Bolland
Florida knows something that Arizona doesn't and it looks obvious. It's either that Bolland is coming back, or Crouse isn't that good
If either thing happens, then Arizona got schooled.

2nd and 3rd round picks are crapshoots. Per Hockeys Future on Crouse
"Crouse was the second-leading scorer for the Kingston Frontenacs in 2015-16 and was dominant at times during the OHL playoffs. He was an assistant captain for Canada at the World Juniors as an 18-year-old. Crouse will make a strong push for a roster spot with the Panthers in training camp. He is too young to play in the AHL in 2016-17 and would have to return to juniors. He is also eligible to play for Canada again at the 2017 WJC. Viewed by some scouts as a big player who dominated junior hockey due to his size advantage, Crouse took big steps in 2015-16 and has the appearance of a future top-six forward."
I don't see how this is a bad trade for Arizona, given they aren't going to be competiive for a few years, and by that time Bolland will be off the books. So Arizona gets a closer to NHL ready prospect than either of those picks are going to be, giving the kid time to grow with Arizona's young core... Do you even armchair GM? |

Exactly. Crouse is fine. He's not likely to be a 1st line player but can easily become a fringe 2nd line/3rd line winger who will score 15-20 goals which is fine. He's a big guy too. Phoenix loses nothing in this deal. |
