len hackborn- from a points perspective he seemed ok when on the flyers...he never stuck though. not sure why.

Clayton Norris - was always a favorite of mine. thought he would have had a nice 4th line role at some point.

bob Wilkie
Jason bowen
brian wesenberg - had high hopes for him

Interesting choices. Hachborn was considered a little too one-dimensional and Keenan wasn't a fan. He could score goals.

All but Norris did play for the Flyers at least in one non-exhibition game.

AHL fav's,
Patrick Julin: no real reason

Darren Rumble: Again, not really sure why...just liked him

Part of me misses the Flyers having a farm team either in Philadelphia (the Firebirds and the Phantoms) or just outside the city like the Titans. Even as close as they are now it just doesn't seem the same....

Boyd Kane:

Got to know him in Hershey when I was working with the Bears.

Guy seem to be just one of those AHL lifers that you thought might make it one day to the NHL.

Not really favorites, but interesting players:

I still think that the Thomas Hyka case was interesting, especially when he was taken with the pick used in the Richards trade.

I believe Jared Ross may be the only player in NHL history (or at least Flyers' history) to have more playoff goals than regular season goals. Obviously played for them, but mostly a Phantoms player.

I believe Sidney Crosby was just named team Captain of Canada.

I just wanna know, how much do you guys hate Crosby? There is no questioning that he's a talented player, probably the best in the league today but I feel like he's been handed a lot. I've seen this kid fall on his ass on a breakaway I believe against Biron or Emery and because the puck ended up in the net due to interference of his body crushing the net, the goal was allowed. The shootout goal from the Buffalo Winter Classic and the 2010 Olympic shootout goal after he did nothing all tournament. Crosby winning the Conn Smyth this past playoffs when he wasn't the best player for either team.

He makes me sick.

Anyone remember the Gagne disallowed goal against Pitt when the Pitt Broadcast team laughed about it later on air?

I saw that the 2nd rounder becomes a 3rd if Crouse doesnt play this season for ARI

Scott Bertoli - lifetime Trenton Titan, perfect example of a player who embraced his role and lead the Titans to the Kelly Cup in 2005. Only number the Titans ever retired.

I think it stays a 2nd if they trade Crouse this season, but most likely he plays another OHL season and the cost for Arizona is just two 3rds.

thats definitely stomach-able for Arizona, think Florida got hosed. Think Crouse will be a nice little player one day.

Peter White always comes to mind when Phantoms are mentioned since, I went to a game and had the wives/girlfriends in the row behind me. Well the game progresses. And a fight breaks out. All I hear from behind me is... "That's not my Peter" as he's getting into a fight. I had to stifle my laugh even though my girlfriend didn't stifle hers.

Such a fun night out at those games.

Those chants need to go the way of the dodo bird. As does the stolen from the Wings sucks during opposition introductions.

"IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!"

Edit: I don't mind the "Crosby Sucks" chants as long as it's done against the Penguins and he's done something in-game to earn it. Chanting it during a February game versus the Sabres makes no sense.

For me it's not so much that everything has been handed to him, he's an extremely talented player and if anyone else were to be in that position I don't think there would be as big of an issue; that's because we don't like him.

I have a problem with the seemingly lack of respect for the game. The constant whining and complaining to refs is unbelievable, especially when you watch him on the ice. There just seems to always be a problem with another player or the officiating, it's almost Lebron-esque. It's not that hard to get under his skin, and when that happens it's ok for him to retaliate with a slash behind the play. It's hockey, it happens.

I'd just much rather have the biggest superstar of the game not be that way. Hopefully McJesus is as humble in the future as he is now.

Hot take alert: Crosby is a great player and person, whose "Crysby" reputation is kind of old and yawn inducing. Not to mention our beloved Clode can be a tad female dogy himself and gets whack a mole happy at times with his stick.

But PK Subban should still be booed. We all know the reason.

This Lawson Crouse trade though.....man, is Arizona a (frank)ing stockpile of forward prospects: Domi, Duclair, Keller, Strome, Dvorak, Crouse, Fischer, Merkeley. Their d pool still looks weaker.

In a couple years we could make a great trade partner. Clayton, my love, soon.

Something that has been going through my head with all the 50th anniversary stuff. How would you feel if they rotate all the previous goal songs through the season? Changing either with each goal or each game.

I've been reading your blog for years and I truly look forward to it each day. Now I understand that it's the dog days of the offseason but come on Bill! Is this really the most interesting content you can think of? Analysis of the strengths/weaknesses of the current roster, Hypothetical scenarios/blockbuster trades, A look into the future - 2019-2020 Flyers roster predictions, ANYTHING relevant to the current state of the team for next year and beyond would be much a much appreciated and welcome change from the constant Alumni updates and whatever other (s)news-worthy material you've been pumping out lately.

The whole crybaby/whiner thing is so outplayed at this point. Yeah, his first few seasons, it was legit. But over the last half decade or so, it's the exact opposite: he's actually embraced the ambassador role. Also, as he's shown the past 2 years, he and his team don't let people rile them anymore. He doesn't "complain" to the refs any more than any other captain, including, Giroux, Toews, etc. At this point, he's becoming more and more the player that the NHL dreamed he would be.

With this being the 50th anniversary of the club the looks back are probably going to continue and for some of us bring back some memories we kind of let slip.

Bill has stated before that he doesn't really get into rumors and things of that sort. That's because he's actually a respected journalist, not some fly-by "news" blogger who drums up coke-induced dream scenarios where you make up rosters for the next 4 years without knowing the future and touting how great each player is/isn't before they've played a pro game.

Basically, if you don't like what he writes, you don't have to read it, and I'm sure others here and other places will satiate your needs for hypothetical trades that will never ever happen.
