Great write-up Bill.
I had the pleasure of seeing Yannick play with the Phantoms and he was very noticeable for his speed. He earned the shot with the Flyers and it is sad how leukemia took that shot away.
I love every year seeing who gets the award that honors him. He had a love for the game that exuded every time you saw him on the ice. And the stories of how he was with the press seem to be just as joyful.
One of the good guys on this planet taken too soon.

I know that the Flyers will turn 50 this year and that their franchise is not in its infancy, but has there been any other team (in any sport) that has suffered as much tragedy as the Flyers franchise has?

Probably not as many instances, but some franchises have certainly had some terrible tragedies, mainly Lokomitiv Yaroslavl
Wow - I was at that Flyers game against the Blues back in 1996... it was right after the blizzard, if I recall correctly. And in the game, the Flyers had a 1-goal lead in the last minute... St. Louis (coached by Mike Keenan) pulled their goalie, and at one point it looked like the Flyers had scored into the empty net, but the goal was (at least to us at the game) mysteriously disallowed... idk, maybe it hit the linesman or something before going in... anyway, soon after that, the Blues scored to tie the game, and that's how it ended. I had no idea that Yanick Dupre had scored his only Spectrum goal at that game.
