I've always been proud to say the Flyers despite their bullies reputation have been one of the more socially responsible franchises on this earth. The money and events they've raised before it was a requirement (as it seems to be today). That being said my dad took me every year to the carnival in my childhood days and I went last year for the first time in 6 7 years. Is it just me or has the carnival had a significant drop off ? It might be older eyes. I just felt like it was an assembly line more than a fun event.

Also yesterday article. One my favorite pro comparisons which even still would be a successful career for Morin is a mean physical version of coburn. Coburn repeated foot injuries really derailed a very solid career imo. Before them he was a very solid 2nd pairing guy with speed. Maybe my expectations are lower but I'd be thrilled with that result.

People also forget Schenn was once a can't miss 1c prospect. Now he turned into a solid top 6 winger. But like you always do you taper expectations well.

Bill,

Did they give any indication as to why the carnival is so early this season?

I think a more physical Coburn (think 2010 SCF version) would be good, if not fantastic, for Morin. I don't think he'll ever be more than a 2nd pair guy, and if he can ever develop into a Derian Hatcher type, which I don't think he will, I would be thrilled. As long as he's not another Andy Sutton type, I'll be happy.

I didn't ask. For my purposes the "when" was what mattered, not the why. But there are a lot of events upcoming that month.

Agree. Too many flyers fans remember hatcher for the ghost of the legend who played for us and not the perennial all star. I hear pronger Seabrook and hatcher a lot as comparisons. But I have always liked the physical coburn one. He could just as easily become Dylan Mcllrath.

I wouldn't be shocked if the schedule change due to the World Cup caused the Carnival move.

I got my tickets yesterday and am looking forward to the day.

The 08-10 Coburn was a tremendous #2-3 dman. If more can become a more physical version of him I'd be thrilled. I think he won't be an offensive threat but more than make up for it with his ability to clamp down on offensive chances.

If we get good Coburn I think most people will be happy. If we get the turnover late in a tied game machine Coburn we will all be screaming for someone's head.

Morin to me is the one question mark of the trio of Provorov, Sanheim and Morin who are the three I really expect to make it. Hagg, Wilcox, Myers, Friedman will all be the cherry on top if any become a regular contributor for the Flyers.

You touched on the real question...which of our beloved defensive prospects will we turn on and hate the most

Sanheim imo. People are expecting a top pairing guy. I see him more as a large offensive defenseman. His defense is already maddening.

Then I am okay with trading him now for whatever we can get

Sanheim to me is going to work his ass off to fix his issues. Kid just seemed so focused at development camp.

For someone who has only really been playing defense competitively for about 5 years, he really isnt as bad as most wanna make him out to be.

He has a bit of rover to him, and he isnt really all that physical, but the tools are there.
He is a smart kid who understands the game. He will always be more offensively inclined, but he has a decent d-zone game as well. Its finding balance that gives him trouble.

I could see him being like a young Jay-Bo.

Moving the date, I understand, given the demands on the arena for things like concerts and other sporting events.

Having the event twice in one calendar year is a far bigger puzzler to me than simply moving the date out of February.

Unfortunately, Sam Morin is going to have to score a triple Gordie Howe hat trick every game and put 5 guys through the boards on a nightly basis to make some people happy.

It's likely a 1 year deal & not a long term issue.

You're probably right. It's just odd.

I actually wouldn't mind somehow seeing the Ed Snider Youth Foundation get some sort of fan event in the fall (maybe something on a smaller scale), with the carnival staying in February or early March.

At some point, It hink it's likely we're gonna have to turn one of these prized youths into a prized forward. It could be any one of Provorov, Sanheim, Morin, Myers, Hagg or even Gostisbehere. It just depends on how everything pans out. Sooner or later we may have to move on from Del Zotto and/or Gudas to create the balance we need. I'm kinda wondering when this time might be.

I am stumped why a tournament held in September, in Toronto, would require the schedule of an event held in Philly to move from February to November.

Help a brother out here. lol

Edit: possibly never mind - they do have more games in February this year than last year, probably due to the delayed start of the season thanks to the lame tournament

MDZ assuming he doesn't regress was our top shutdown defenseman. I don't see anything in the near future that suggests we will have 4 players with advanced shutdown skills that make him expendable.

Only thing I can figure is availability of the arena with respect to the team's playing schedule, itself.

They have their Western Canadian road trip smack in the middle of February this year....I feel like that's out of the ordinary as well (but I could be wrong).

What do you mean by that? I dont think there is any reason at all to move from those guys. Hell even if all of our guys do pan out, were are at least 3 seasons away from them all being everyday players. And if there is one thing you definitely do not want, its 4 rookies on defense.
