Matt Henderson: Friedman Still One Of The Best

I don't think it is fair at all to say that he properly called Oleksiak's race. He was calling her Overholt during the final stretch right up until you saw the #1 beside her name. I was extremely confused as to what was going on. Much more so than the Phelps race where I was aware that he was mistaking him with Lochte. Still love Elliotte and I understand that he was probably pretty shook up after the Phelps call.

This article seems to be completely letting Friedman off the hook for what was the much more serious blunder.

Always felt most people put wayy too much stock in the opinions of the media and pundits when it comes to sports knowledge.

Sure. However, he failed at his job. It wasn't a small tiny mistake like people make in their daily lives. This was one of the bigguest blunders ever. At the very least, he should have lost his media priviledges. By not taking a hard stance, it basically teaches him nothing and leaves the impression that media members can make mistakes without being reprimanded.
