Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Hiring Fair On Now; Where Will the Goals Come From? The Vancouver Canucks need to step up their offense next season. What's a reasonable expectation for how much they can increase scoring?

Chris Tanev's summer with his shooting coach

I expect no improvement from Tanev frankly.

I think his waffling shot doesn't result in goal until maybe game 45 or 50 even of the season... 3-4 goals all season tops imo.

His role is shot suppression and being a shut-down D-man. The fact that he is working on his shot this summer means he would like to add a little more offense to his game but ultimately that is not why he is playing on the top D line with Edler.

The chances of success increase dramatically with the eventual signing of playmaker Jiri Hudler. Sorry CanuckDon, haha

I agree 100% with your comment. I commend him for trying to improve on his weak shot. I just find it hard to believe he'll be successful at it since he has shown so little on the offence front to date.

because some people claim it's their last comment on a topic and then they still go ahead and make another comment on the same topic?? or is it something else...

if you can't remember, don't worry, i understand...

I don't expect him to improve significantly on his 3-4 goals either but I think that will depend on whether Larsen actually does get the bulk of the PP time and whether the team tries to get Gudbranson going with PP time as well.

Tanev managed only 2 goals on the PP last year but that was 2nd to Edler's 3 and he did that with the 5th most ice time.

I think this year we see Tanev get even less PP icetime and I don't think his limited offensive skills translate as well to 5v5.

If Larsen doesn't make the cut and Gudbranson doesn't get fed the PP minutes I think Tanev does improve that total.

I think he has been given the green light/being encouraged to be a little more offensive and play with the puck a bit more in the offensive zone.

I am curious to see Troy Stecher and what he has to offer. Also Jordan Subban has not been talked about much but both of these kids have great offensive instincts. If the mighty Finn goes back to junior and one of these boys comes out of nowhere like Ben did last year, who knows.

really? what exactly do you find objectionable about my comment, that I think a guy who has shown little to no offence continues to do the same?

or you think I'm being overly pessimistic about Tanev's ability to suddenly become an offensive dynamo?

I should add I realize Larsen has a better chance to crack the team than these two but I like the potential these two bring. Larsen is much older and has been fringe until finally breaking out in the KHL. Can he break out here and be the next Klingberg??

oh man, your memory is getting worse...

i think st. john's wort or some other herbal concoction might help you out...

there's a great natural pharmacy on Broadway. you should go there.

but don't leave home without a paper that has your name, address, and an emergency contact number on it. Just in case you get lost or you forget where you are going, etc... and one more thing. make sure you wear a helmet in case you stumble and fall down.

Yes, thank you Carol. I really appreciate having a blogger that adds so much to HB. Your blogs are always realistic and accurate unlike some of you fellow bloggers. You are heading up to Meltzer and JJ status and that is good for Canuck followers.

I like J-Pat but his totals don't account for many things like you pointed out Carol.

Injuries is one thing but I think people forget that if Sutter is back and should score around 20, it also means that he is taking ice time away from Horvat.

The Eriksson signing will take ice time, especially with the sedins, away from Hansen.

With the current roster my hope would be something along the lines of....

Daniel 25
Eriksson 25
Sutter 20
Baertschi 18
Horvat 15
Hansen 15
Henrik 15
Rodin 10
Burrows 10
Virtanen 10

in order to achieve Meltzer or JJ status, Carol's gonna need to cultivate some inside senior sources in the organization and starting putting out legit scoops on what is happening inside the mgmt team and what the thinking is inside the org at the executive level.

Anything less than that and no one can legitimately claim she's at that level.

but i do agree, she is one of the better bloggers here.
