My Jonathan Dahlen impression sounds a lot like Arnold Schwarzenneger

What current NHL player would you best compare his style/potential with?

Sometimes what drives me nuts when talking about prospects is how short people's memories are. It's great to be excited and look forward to the future but the fact is the guy is a 2nd round pick. He COULD be a solid player and breakout - in fact with Dorion taking over, I'm very confident in our drafting and development now - but the truth is that history shows us that players can flop just as easily.

Quick examples - Wiercioch - he was a SOLID top 4 D-man; especially in the year Cowen and Karlsson went down. His stretch pass was one of the best I've seen in recent memory but his effectiveness had you convinced he'd be a solid NHL D-man with a good chance at top 4 mins + PP time. Regin was another guy that shinned early and showed a lot of promise (his agent hinted at Vanek type $7M per year). Eventually he too faded out; but did play in Chicago. And if 2nd and 3rd rounders aren't enough, Pumpel from 2011 (5 years!) still has to prove himself and secure a spot in the NHL. All I'm saying is that when you say White, Chabot, Brown you can be their going to be good but even Cowen was the talk of the town after his rookie season. I honestly believe if healthy he and karlsson would have been at the same level as Redden and Chara back in the day (this was before Chara became Norris level)

In short here's how I see the Sens:

Pros:
Strong top 9
Strong #1 D-man
Strong Top 4D
Good Checking forwards
Good Blue Chip Prospects
Diverse group of prospects

Improvement / Concerns:
Lack of Star Power beyond Karlsson
Defensive depth beyond top 4
Goaltender in 2 years + Goal-tending prospects
Salary availability

Dahlan may or may not turn into an everyday NHLer in a few years, but he is a second round pick and has the NHL pedigree.

Speaking of second round picks, Sens need to stop trading them away..

:Question? How many Sens fans are worried about losing Marc Methot to Las Vegas next June? I mean they finally have a good top four defence after 3-4 years of poopty D

I choose option C, neither

But seriously here is my protected players list

7 forwards:

Bobby Ryan NMC
Mark Stone
Kyle Turris
Mike Hoffman
Derick Brassard
JG Pageau
Curtis Lazar

3 Defencmen:

Dion Phaneuf NMC
Erik Karlsson
Cody Ceci

1 Goalie:

Andrew Hammond

Exposed: Clark MacArthur, Matt Peumple, Ryan Dzingel,
Marc Methot, Chris Wideman, Mark Boroweicki
Craig Anderson

Zack Smith will be UFA. Hopefully he resigns for a few years on the cheap after the expansion draft.

Anderson will be 36 during the expansion draft. And at $4.2 I think they'll be better options. However if Hammond has a good season at 28 he could be a good back up pick @ $1.3.

I am totally with you...until you said Hammond. IMO there is no way he even comes close to the level he had when they were on that crazy run. I think they protect Anderson all day because even if Hammond can find his game like that again there are definitely going to be more than 3 better options available for Vegas to take.

Still not sure what people or the organization see in Hammond. He didn't even look that great in his hot run, just incredibly lucky at times. He's a career back up at best. Wouldn't know the difference with him in or out of the lineup. Can't say the same for Andy, although age will surely catch up with him.

I said this even during that run.........he was incredibly lucky for pretty much the entire 2nd half of that run. He was terrible positionally and constantly fought the puck. Had anderson started the entire playoff series against the habs I think sens would have won.

Hammond is a stop gap until one or two of o'connor, dreidger, or hogberg can make the jump.

Agreed, I'm not to worried about Andy or Hammond being picked up by Vegas. There is going to be some good options out there for them. Rebuilding teams with poopty top 4 D don't have much to worry about. I find it very frustrating that our top 4 is FINALLY solid, and it'll be broken up after 1 full season together. Hopefully PD can work out a deal with Vegas to not pick MM

i think losing methot wouldn't hurt, as long as he's replaced with a competent player. the problem in the past was that when methot was hurt the options to replace him have been cowen, boro, phillips, and ceci as a rookie. now, we have an older and more experienced ceci, and phaneuf.......then you move a chabot or englund onto the 2nd pairing. nothing wrong with that.

Hammond is a solid backup, doesn't hurt to have him.
Hogberg is the most intriguing goalie in the pipeline that we have, I could see him backing up Anderson next season, unless O'Connor dominates the A.

Marcus Högberg is VERY interesting. I've been watching him and his positioning is fantastic for a large butterfly goalie. He's 6 foot 5, but despite this, he doesn't seem to have holes in his stance like you see with some large lanky goalies.

I think O'Connor will need 1-2 more years in the AHL. He's a late bloomer and he is just learning the pro style of game. He's had injury/equipment issues, but he really was starting to turn things around near the end of last year. He's got a late start, so he might be more mature ( older ) than you'd expect when he's finally ready.

My question is why? The guy is playing pro in Sweden in one of the top leagues. He's got good stats and a good squad and has been argued as one of the best goalies outside of the NHL. We have a log jam in the AHL where he would be fighting for playing time. Let him refine his game a little more and hopefully he's the next big thing out of Sweden.
