Did it really send shock waves when he signed with NYR? I thought it was well known that the sabres were not going to open their wallets for him, and Briere.

In hindsight, they should gave have also cheaped out and let Vanek go and taken the 4 first rounders. Now that would have sent shockwaves.

Actually Drury and his agent had a deal with the Rangers long before free agent day, and if the lying pos had given the Sabres a wink, (knowing Bufalo had decided they could sign only one) they could have kept Briere. But they weren't going to risk revealing they had done something prohibited, so they were happy to screw the Sabres. Who'd not think he's up to another crooked scam?

Didn't you say being able to hang out with Bogo's crew was gonna change Vesey's mind? I mean, apparently, according to you, it's who the cool kids hang with. I wish I knew the name you called them. *sigh*

And seriously, (frank) vesey. He is an entitled (frank) who waited out his obligations to do what he wants. It's a waste of that 3rd rounder that you thought was nothing when compared to signing him. Let him go to Boston like what's his name did...(wheeler)

Chris "shake on it" Drury.

What a chump. Him, Briere and that weasel Marty Biron, who was leaning on Briere to come to Philly after he was traded to Philly that season. Darcy did Marty a favor and got him a starting gig and Marty thanked us by whispering sweet French nothing's into Brieres ear.

All three are chumps in my book.

Vesey going to pull the blinders over everyone and sign with the Devils. Ray Shero is going to swoop in like a stealth and sign Vesy. That's my off the wall prediction.

GARTH has finally recognized the unlikelihood that Vesey will sign with the Sabres. Let's face the facts. If he was going to sign with us he would have done it already.

GMTM has blown a valuable asset yet again. Not getting fair value for the 1st rounder that went to Ottawa in the Lehner trade. Not getting futures in trading Tyler Myers. Giving up prospects in that same trade. Giving away a 3rd rounder to Nashville for nothing.

We can't afford much more mismanagement.

There are gaping holes all over the roster. Not all of this can be blamed on Murray, his predecessor left a bare cupboard.

I heard an analyst suggest that the Sabres might have the worst blue line depth in the entire league. How are we going to win this year?

Buffalo, under its money for me owner, was trying to get both to give a home town discount. Is it any wonder they both embraced free agency? Thank GOD for Mr. Pegula, that those days are in the past.

I agree with most of this, but in hindsight, the Sabres should've inked Danny the year before when he went to arbitration and settled on a 1 year contract.

As for Vesey, F him if he goes to Chicago. The champion who a team builds off of is greater in my book than the guy who comes along for a ride with a made team. Ray Allen wannabe.

Yup, and if he went to Boston, fine, it's where he's from, but Chicago? Get out of here. I hope he sucks.

At this point it's pretty clear that Vesey is not going to two teams, Nash and Buffalo, and that's fine. But what is happening here with Chicago is pretty low for a team that prides themselves on being top-notch. Send a low-level scout to look at Vesey, it's classless for the Bowman and Quinneville to scout a guy who's rights belong to another team. Chicago might have the inside track to Vesey now, but man up and at least pay Buffalo a 5th round pick to sign the guy, this dirt bag maneuver is beneath a dynasty team like Chicago. It just shows how little they may truly have left in the system to stoop this low, Chicago's days are numbered.

"Is this the behavior you expect from the NHL team that has won three of the past seven Stanley Cups? Not me. I expect this type of desperation from a perennial doormat or a bubble team that is looking for their next savior."

Or maybe just their blogger...? (And yes, I know that Mike is the official Sabres blogger - and a fine one at that - but Garf obviously has an inherent bias)

Nothing low about it at all, just sour grapes to you Sabre whiners. Hawks just doing what they have to if they have a chance to sign him. I hope they do! How can you call it classless when you are pursuing a free agent, my god, wake up and smell the coffee.

No, it's not sour grapes, I don't care where Vesey goes, and frankly I'm sick of hearing about him, he's proven nothing. And, he not a free agents, Buffalo owns his rights. Chicago is a great club who has built a dynasty, and come August 15th they can go ahead a sign Vesey. But what they are doing is Bush league, it is classless and beneath one of the best teams in the league, and it's tarnishing their legacy. If they want to talk to the kid, man up and pay for his rights or have one of their players talk to him secretly like every other team does. But to have the G.M and now the coach pulling this crap is classless.

Wrong - it's down to Three teams- Boston, Buffalo and Pittsburgh and his Dad told him not to sign in Boston. Buffalo is still the frontrunner due to Jack and he also appreciates the way Buffalo is handling the situation

You are allowed to scout any player you like, you simply can't have contact with them. Perhaps GMTM hasn't phoned he NHL because he probably has his own people there that have conformed all chicago is doing is scouting. You can't just file a tampering charge because someone is watching a game. It doesn't matter how high up in the organization they are.

I totally agree, but that wasn't my point. Chicago can sign him, go ahead, they can scout him too, but to have the G.M. and the head coach fly to Mass. to scout him in person at some bar league is ridiculous. They should just call GMTM at this point and ask if they can talk to him, I'm sure GMTM will say yes just to move the process along.

I never suggested tampering charges or even complaining to the league, but The fact the people are suggesting that this low-ball move is somehow legit because it's Chicago doing and they have cups recently is utter nonsense. That the Sabres shouldn't be irked because they don't have any cups is ridiculous. Bowman should show some decency and pick up a damn phone and call GMTM already.

If you are trying to trade Kane this off season, then you are getting nothing. At this point, I don't think anybody gives you even 2nd rounder for him.

His problems will be starting on August 1, not ending. The NHL will investigate, and unless this is all just made up, he will be suspended for conduct detrimental to the NHL and his team. He may also be dealing with some civil suites as well.

Years from now, no one will talk about the three Stanley Cups. Chicago will only be remembered for scouting Vesey.

And deep dish pizza.
