Imagine that, He is intending to explore all his options in free agency.
Who could have predicted that from someone who wanted to wait until he was a free agent before he signed so that he could,
wait for it...
explore all his options.
Vesey has never changed his tune. Trading a 3rd for his rights was a risk and some would say it was a stupid risk. |

Let's face it, he's not going to sign with the Sabres. It was a risky move.... we have to get over it.

I posted this in the last Garth blog, but I'll put it in this one since it's just as relevant to this:
Today @ 9:07 PM ET
I guess Garth needs to blog about something, and there really isn't much else except Vesey. Nonetheless I find it ridiculous how much hype this kid is getting.
It's also a little ridiculous that according to Garth, signing Vesey somehow makes Kane more expendable. What has Vesey done so far to show he is even comparable to Kane (ignoring Kane's off ice issues), let alone better?
Everyone was salivating over Justin Shultz back when he signed in Edmonton. He was going to be on their top pairing and be a stud for them. The media went through the same circus we're now seeing with Vesey.
I think we need to look at Vesey the same way intelligent people were looking at Shultz: A nice young guy to pick up, if possible, but just a young player with some potential that hasn't proven anything at the NHL level yet.
P.S. Why does Murray have any reason to be upset at Vesey? He said all along he was going to explore his options. It's not his fault Buffalo threw away a pick to try and convince him to sign with them before other teams got a chance to present their offers. Vesey is just being smart. |

It wasn't risky at all. 3rd round picks are a dime a dozen and there's no way we could have picked and signed all of the draft picks we've had anyways. I'm glad he took a shot at Vesey. |

The best is the Tampering allegations made by Garth and a few Sabres fans that don't understand what exactly constitutes tampering.
You can't talk to the player or his agent , you can't speak to the media regarding your interest in said player and that's about it. You can scout a player in whatever bun(frank) league you want, it's well within the rules.
If the player gets the impression you are interested in him by appearing at his games so be it. It would be the player making the assumption if that were the Case. |

TAMPERING OR NEGOTIATING WITH PLAYERS AND CERTAIN NON-PLAYING EMPLOYEES OF OTHER CLUBS
15.1.
(a)
Except as provided in Section 9a.5 [regarding free agency], no Member Club...shall -- directly or indirectly -- tamper, negotiate with, make an offer to or discuss employment with any player, or his agent or representative, with respect to whom another Member Club has either the professional rights or the right to negotiate for said professional right without prior written consent of that Member Club.

(c)
The making or causing to be made, through any medium, public or private, any statement indicating any intention or desire of or interest in acquiring the services of any person referred to in (a) ... may, at the discretion of the Commissioner, be deemed to be a contravention of this By-Law.

Now, Bowman may not have said anything publicly but actions speak louder than words and his two visits to scout him himself scream I want you while he is Sabres property. When you are being recruited by college programs and have them scouting you, you know who wants to give you a scholarship if a head coach is watching multiple games. Maybe that rule needs to be updated for NCAA and Junior players to include summer leagues that GM's would never leave their summer cottages to scout unless they wanted it be clear that they wanted in on this player that isn't their property. |

Stan Bowman, "greasy and desparate "? Not even close. He's shining his 3 Stanley Cup rings as he eyeballs Vesey.
Garth says Chicago was not on Vesey's short list on July 1. Says who ? Where's the attribution ?
Did Garth talk to Vesey, his agent or reps on July 1 and wrote down his "list" ? Or is this just a leap and assumption by this particular blogger.
Tim Murray traded a 3rd round pick for Vesey's rights and thought he was going to close the deal. He failed. Truth be told Stan Bowman tried 2 years ago all the way up August 1 to get Kevin Hayes signed. Hayes held firm, went UFA on August 15 and chose the Rangers. It hurt cuz the hawks drafted him and waited 4 years for him to blossom and mature. Then when he was NHL ready, he bolted.
In this case, Nashville feels it got dissed. Tim Murray bought himself a ticket to the fiasco and now his minions like Garth are whining.

Good lord man, this is one of the most conspiracy theoriest/illuminati confirmed blogs you've written yet.
Watching somebody play a game isn't a crime. Giving an interview to your home TV network isn't a crime. We knew when we traded the pick for his rights that it may turn into nothing. It was a risk we took anyway, and were I in control, still would have made.
Whether he's eventually a Sabre, a Bruin, a Leaf, a Hawk, or even an Oiler (well... maybe not that last one, please), you need to calm down. |

Hey Sabre fans, are Isles fans complaining that you tampered by signing Okposo? Is he a con artist because he signed with you? Get over it! Vesey didn't make you waste pick. He doesn't owe anyone! He's in a great position to pick where he wants to call home. It's not even money issue since any contract will be similar to any other. Also, why are you leaving Rangers off short list? He's friends with K Hayes and would be a nice fit on a team stacked with young US players his age.

Eat me, this acknowledged it wasn't tampering but when do GM's scout glorified shinny leagues anytime, especially mid-summer? Go hump your McDavid poster before beddy bye. - GilPerreault11
So a GM doing his due diligence is being admonished for doing so? If this were Tim Murray you'd be praising him. |

Everyone seemed to understand that Garf. I just wish that Vesey and his agent would've mentioned that they planned to go to Free Agency. |

I love Garth Blogs. Puts a smile on my face every morning. It's like a B movie that is so terrible it's good.
As for this Vesey. Maybe he doesn't like Buffalo, maybe he doesn't want to ride shotgun to Eichel, perhaps GMTM's ptich wasn't good enough, or maybe he doesn't like GMTM. There could be a hundred reason why Vesey doesn't want to sign in Buffalo. In the end he could do as he pleases.
I also love how the "upstart Sabres will provide him with a great opportunity to make the playoffs in his rookie NHL season in Buffalo."
How can you even list this as reason, when he told Nashville to take get lost. A team were he would not only be guaranteed a playoff spot, but it would have already eaten one year of ELC. So he gave up a guaranteed playoff spot, to sign for an opportunity at a playoff spot. Obviously a playoff spot is not high on Vesey's demands.
As for Bowman. He doesn't have to show any team any respect. He simply has to do his job to make his team better. If that means going to scout Vesey, then so be it. For all I care, he could go and scout Vesey's golf game, so long as he doesn't contact him before August 15. |

My question would be how do the Hawks or another cap team afford him, not for this coming season, but for next season and beyond?
Assuming he is as good as some say, it will likely mean he hits his bonuses as it seems like his agency wants those bonuses easily attainable, and if he does, he turns from a $950K bargain into less of a bargain at $3M+. |

Maybe by waiting until 8/15 to sign with BUF, Jimmy Vesey spares himself answering the same questions over and over again while in Massachusetts for the summer. He sure looks comfortable with Jack Eichel in Foxboro every Wednesday night. He is video of them together:

So what it was a third round pick, and we had three of them. Remember you cant sign everybody and the farm system is stocked with players, not to mention next year we have 2 seconds and a 2 thirds!
We made our pitch, personally I hope its not toronto or boston and he decides to head west! I would love that, and really piss off the Preds!
Toronto thinks there the center of the hockey universe They are Door man posing as food critic on YELP!, as far as boston there time is just about at an end! There heading for the basement! |

The rules you quoted only point out that no tampering has taken place. Any manager may scout for their team (yes, even Sabres players). There has been no offer, no meetings with Vesey or his agent. End of discussion.
You can't dictate who is scouted and when. Grow up. - Tangled
