It's like in "Beetlejuice".....if you say Dustin Byfuglien's name 3 times, a "trade to the Flyers" rumor will appear.

So... what I gathered was this.

Every player that got this close to arbitration wound up being traded by the Flyers at some point. This might be the first time I ever found good news on my own. Being an optimist is fun!

Great work as always Bill. Your knowledge of hockey history is second to none.

Given the weather this past weekend, Bernie must have been drenched in sweat in that black tux in the sun.

Actually, no. Hextall retired from the NHL 3 years after his arbitration prior to the 96/97 season. So by that logic, Schenn will be here for 3 more years.

Bernie Parent once had a bead of sweat touch his face. Now the sweat knows not to mess with Bernie.

It's just that we get it, you don't like Brayden Schenn. It's not quite 2Real Coburn hate bad, but we get it.

Also, I wanted to apologize for calling you a troll earlier. But you do need to lighten up and stop acting like Schenn is a fringe AHLer.

Congrats to Bernie.

Well, by now the hearing should be underway, unless they're locked in a room hammering out a deal.

Within 48 hours, we should see Schenn on a 2 year deal and can move forward. Hopefully it doesn't produce any bad blood.

From what I've heard, that may have been one of the more lenient and tender parts of the rant.

I say Hextall needs to quit messing around and lock Schenn up long term now. He's the 3rd best forward on the team and is only going to get better imo.

I'm glad everyone gets it, but that shouldn't mean that I have to stop posting about him.

I appreciate the apology, but it isn't wasn't needed. Men say things to one another and get over it. No need to hold grudges from a place where we have more in common than we'd all like to admit.

We're all Flyer fans and want what is best for the team. I think we're better off using Schenn as an asset now, before the rest of the league finds out that he isn't anything special. That's how I see it. He could be something more, but not with the Flyers.

We've kind of taken the Edmonton approach to prospects. Hold onto them until they have no value and are signed to a long term deal that cripples us and we are forced to endure or give him away.

I see Schenn as Leino with the Sabres. Had one good year in the final year of his contract and signed a nice new deal, than disappeared into the ashbin of Flyer history for that one good playoff run.

If I'm wrong, the Flyers win. If I'm right I win. It's a win/win for me.

if hextall viewed him as the 3rd best forward on the team he would be locked up by now. G Jake Simmer and Coots are all more valuable and bring more to the team overall than Schenn does. Im not saying Schenn isnt a good player or an asset or not valuable to this team, but asking for 5.5 million per when he really has only shown he deserves that much for 3 and a half months of one season, pretty ridiculous. Hexy coming in at a smidge under 4.5 is right where i would value him as well.

First of all, no poster has a right to tell you have to stop posting your opinion.

Secondly, why do think Schenn could be something more with somebody else but not the Flyers?

In order for a contract to be signed, both sides have to agree on a deal. That a deal hasn't been agreed upon, in no way indicates how Hextall feels about the player. Bill outlined that in an arbitration case, both sides adjust from what they feel is a fair deal. The player on the high side, the team on the low side.

A deal not being agreed upon is a direct indication of how Hextall feels, how is it not? He is the GM, he gives out the contracts in the end, he is the be all end all of contract negotiations. if hextall felt the same way schenn feels about himself a deal would be done, no? The fact that Hexy gave contract extensions with a year remaining on deals to G, Jake, Simmer, Coots and also re-signed core guys well before arbitration like raffl, MDZ, Schultz, etc, shows exactly how he feels about the player.

I understand what Bill outlined, i understand how arbitration works. this has nothing to do with that, it has to do with how we arrived here, and numerous other variables that have relation to why we are this situation.
