This should be required reading for most of the rest of the people who cover or blog about the team. Can't say how many blogs or articles I've seen titled "Schenn Turns Down Flyers Two Year Offer"

I'm relieved at the numbers, because neither side is being outrageous. I had feared Schenn was seeing a deal like Forsberg, or in the neighborhood of $6mm per year. Seeing that $5.5mm filing gives me hope a deal can be hammered out before the hearing for a fair contract.

Even if it gets to arbitration, a one year deal for $5.5mm is not a huge issue, should Schenn win. It gives them time to work out a new deal, and chance for Schenn to prove that the last four months of the 2015-16 season were the start of a trend and not a fluke.

Agreed. Reason number 4,379 why Bill is the King of all that is Orange and Black.

That Mike Milbury story still really cracks me up.

Yeah, the sad thing is, he makes a load of cash as a hockey analyst on TV. Sadder, some people actually think he has a clue.

Hextall told Schenn to prove it last summer. He did and it seems to me hextall still is not sold. If they don't reach a long term deal I hope Schenn gets a 1 year deal and continues to improve. Then sticks it to hextall next summer.

Well he proved he can score goals in bunches..........still room to show he's worthy for something long term........at least to some people.

Interesting that the flyers submitted a 2 year arb figure taking him to ufa. To me, if they really believed he is in their long term plans wouldn't you think they'd do a 1 year figure with the chance to do this all again next sunmer?

If this goes to arb it will be a 2 year deal right? It's the team's choice I think

No it's either the Flyers win it & it's a 2 yr deal or Schenn win and it's the 1 yr deal he submitted

This should be an easy signing. Look at the comparables to Schenn who have signed recently ..clearly the flyers or Schenn don't want a long term deal imo.

From bills link. The side against whom arbitration was filed will choose the term. I believe it was schenns camp that filed

My only guess is they're figuring if he got a one year deal and managed to repeat his success, he'd immediately be up for a huge arbitration award when they have to pay Gostisbehere. Big enough award and they might be forced to walk away or make a trade to fit him in.

A trade sets the "rebuild " back imo.

Maybe, maybe not. Depends on the trade return & what you do with the cleared cap space.

Let's hope they can hammer out a deal prior to the hearing. It would be best for both sides. I understand why the Flyers want a short term deal and with that in mind, 2 years, 10.25 million, should get it done.
16-17 5.0
17-18 5.25
After next season they can choose to either extend him or trade him.

The Flyers have said they want a long term deal. They filed for two because that's the longest term available.

What's Schenn get you picks and prospects? Then use cap space to overpay a free agent? I see him as a core player is all

I thought so two.....but it wasn't an offer the Flyers made ....it was there arbitration submission.....big big difference....I say he signs today for 5 years 26-27.5 mil in total with a limited no trade.

Or package Schenn with a prospect or two and get a real first line winger.

I don't see him as a core guy. If he can do what he did over the last 4 months of 2015-16 for 82 games, then my opinion would change. Until he does that, I see a long term, big money deal as a risk

I'll be on suicide watch if Hextall is nuts enough to sign that contract.

That's what I fear. If they went 5 years, $5.5mm I'd be very disappointed.
