My thought was the hand surgery as well. If he got left off because they think they're better without him, then that's pretty ridiculous. |

Honestly, I feel the two players are comparable. So, with Kessel coming off a surgury/long season, they felt Palmieri could step up. Besides, he might thrive with better teammates. Like with Palmieri being on the Devils, he actually did nicely:

Kessel should have been on team USA. If anything last playoffs showed us how useful he can be when you need him most. But if you want to replace Callahan with a "similar" player, than I guess Palmieri wasn'T a bad choice.

The question is, if Kessel did not have hand surgery, would Tortarella have picked him? I kind of doubt that he would have. Considering that he has players like Dubinsky, Byfuglien, and Kessler it seems like his goal is put the most obnoxious team on the ice - not to win. Even some of the more skilled players he has like Oshie and JVR are dirty. I guess he wants a team that mirrors his personality . |
