I am torn on the whole Pokeman thing. It gets a bunch of video game addicts outside (realistically its just Geocaching), but it's Pokemon....which is lame.

Granted I am too old for Pokeman but young enough to have had a couple fantasies of Sailer Moon!

Interesting note on that same interview they asked Monahan about the new NHL where players like Stamkos would take less money so that the team can be better around them and if he'd be willing to do the same

and he said yes... but you could tell it was a bit awkward and uncomfortable
I'm sure his agent was facepalming at that very moment lol

What is taking so long with these contracts? There is comparables for days on a Monahan contract and if Johnny is committed to being a Flame and linemate of Monahan's for a long time then I'm not sure what the hold up is. I hope he hasn't forgot the favor BT gave him 2.5 years ago, burning the first year of his entry level in 13-14 by letting him play his first NHL game.

Read the Travis Yost article on TSN & the problem is all of these new contracts are being set up as buyout & lockout proof because they are implementing more signing bonus than actual base. So the cap hits are the same & for teams trying to buyout a player, they don't get the benefit. Seems all the agents are negotiating these type of deals for their high end players. So i would relax & just let it happen. As we get closer to September, there will be more pressure on the players to sign because I doubt any of them will play in that World Cup tourney if they don't have a new contract, Im pretty sure Monahan & Gaudreau want to play in that tourney. Tre has got to protect the Owners & put together a winner, it takes time.

Its in the details. I would assume both sides have determined their "line in the sand" in regards dollar amounts but its the small details that usually bog down a deal. Term (though not small) bonuses etc.

Ya I get there's a lot that goes into these things, but the groundwork should be in place. If all that is holding this thing up is the dollar structure then Cool Beans. If they prefer to have their money Ryan O'Reilley style and front loaded / bonus laden to the nuts then so be it.

I am not worried. Neither of these guys seem to be me first O'Reilly types.

If we are at Christmas and both sides are not talking I will start to sweat it.

Agreed... These two sign before training camp. Remember everyone said JG wasn't going to sign here? It took a while but it happened...

Just to reply from last blog (our night your day ), the main reason for the comment was the fact you have a young goalie coming through, & if you are to sign Elliot or Bishop they will want a lot more $ that MAF & term, $ that can be spent elsewhere. If it's a long contract which is what will probably happen then you'll find yourself shopping a goalie as we will be doing - not a bad thing really but still not ideal. MAF has the remaining term that suits your timeline. In saying that who is to say JR hasn't already got a trade lined up & your GM may want Bishop but those players coming off the books need to be replaced as well. He's playing the waiting game which a contender can't do for too long - are you guys going to be contenders???

Maybe they are going to wait until just after the tourney...give them both a good excuse not to go so that they don't look like a-holes, meanwhile the Flames protect their assets from a meaningless tournament.

Well there's contenders then there's 'CONTENDERS'.

GMJR said he didn't want to trade MAF just yet - precautionary as there's still a few questions on Muzza. That's why I said he didn't trade him unles he had a visit from the 'godfather'. (You know, offer & can't refuse shyte ) But as I said I would imagine he has plan B ready to go.

My original comment was in response to the blog & how positive it was in finding cheap goalies, & I thought it was short sighted & probably not best for your Flames moving forward, just delaying & giving uncertainty to the whole situation. Is Elliot even a legitimate starter now??

Elliott's 5v5 stats are among the best in the league over the last 3 seasons. I think he's a great fit for this year, and potentially for a short extension... that said, we now have 3 top tier goalie prospects that will hopefully earn their way into prime time over the next few seasons.

Just needed to bridge the gap until they are ready ...I personally love what BT did as we have two guys who have done well recently for half the cap hit most pay for their goaltending
