As a Canuck fan, I am very happy to hear that the Flames found a cheap solution to the goaltending!!!!
I expect productive results - for the opposition |

On paper they did very, very well. But let us see a full season of Elliott and Johnson in Flames sweaters before we call their acquisition a success. After all who saw Hiller and Ramo poopting the bed as bad as they did last season. - Wildschwein
Well, at least if Elliott/Johnson are somehow both terrible (I very much doubt that will be the case) they are very cheap and easy to get rid of. |

This is true. |

Yea, both on 1 year terms is an easy out IF they both poop the bed (not likely). |

I do think he deserves some credit. It shows some patience and insight, but it was lining up to be a buyers market this season and next on goaltending. |

Usually poor goal tending is a result of poor team defence. Not quite sure what it is for Calgary. I do remember Hiller and Ramo having an outstanding season the year before last year. If I were a flames fan, I would have tried to get a game changer like Bishop. With that core d, a game changing goalie makes Calgary a 100 point team easily. |

We've talked about Hartnell quite a bit, but how many of you would be interested in bringing in Foligno if CLB was willing to eat say 1.5 mill per season? Columbus may as well go full rebuild and ditch guys like Foligno and Hartnell and build around Saad, Dubois and Jones.
That isn't a great contract, but 4 million over 5 years is pretty reasonable. He's a left wing which isn't the most ideal thing, but he does use his size well and adds to that element of grit that we've been missing from the top 6. He had a pretty good year with Johansen a few seasons ago so he could end up being very productive with Bennett or even on a line with Johnny and Money (if one of them could switch to RW). |

Why? We have two rather important pieces in our organization to sign and the cost alone put him out of reach. He's a FA next year and theres this little expansion draft thing. Signing Bishop (now) is a Benning move, illogical and shortsighted... |

Think the asking price was too high (also the Monahan and Gaudreau contracts are going to eat the majority of our remaining space) so BT is playing wait and see (both goalies are on 1 year deals).
Hiller and Ramo did play well for us the season before (well average at least), which is why we were so shocked when we had, by far, the worst goaltending in the league last year.
Poor possession could be blamed for some of the goals, but we started way too many games down 1 or 2 or even 3 goals down within the first 5 minutes (softies over the shoulder of Hiller from the blue line usually). That put pressure on our defense to take chances and generate offense, which more often than not lead to more goals being scored against us
I'd like to see what this team does with another year of progression, league average goaltending and a fully functioning Dougie Hamilton before I made a drastic move for a guy like Bishop (who will probably be wanting 7 million in FA ) |

Too much term (IMO) nevermind the cost. I don't see CLB eating any salary either.
I honestly expect to see a real battle for roster spots at camp. there are a few guys in our system that could potentially fill that role. And as was mentioned, the expansion draft will expose more than just tendies. To me we wait and see what the draft brings before any new "big ticket" signings happen.
Heres a question. I know BT mentioned that he thinks we are but in all honesty, do you all feel we get a sniff of the playoffs this upcoming season? I am a sound no. |

It will come down to whether we get good goaltending and if we can find secondary scoring beyond the top line
I think it's possible that the Cali teams slide a bit and can see both Alberta teams improving and even the Canucks should be a little bit better

Thanks Todd.
I think Flames went this route with the tenders hoping that one of the 2 proves to be a real starter.
Worst case scenario is that they don't and they look at a guy like Fleury to stand in. |

I tend to agree with you. Calgary is still a one line team. Give Bennett and Tkachuck a couple years to develop some chemistry and then there will hopefully be 3 lines that can be a threat.
Crazy how much the defence scoring at a ridiculous pace 2 years ago helped out. |

Would be nice if Wideman showed (some) of that touch to increase his trade value... |

I think he will. Some easy pp minutes and a nice shade of pink lipstick and this pig will be turning some heads come TDL. |

And he will want it to be his last. He might actually play defence! |

NO!!!!! Not Turek-itis. That condition leads to a contract with the Flames. |
