Garth,
Sometimes, your Buffalo homer genetics come through more than the reality of the situation. Kucherov came up small in the playoffs. There are lots of players who are good in the regular season, and become invisible in the playoffs. They don't command 8+ million per season! I'd be surprised if his AAV is more than 6.5. Time is on Yzerman's side, and he has a blue chip trade candidate in Ben Bishop to free up cap space. Murray can phone Yzerman all he wants. If he tries your trade proposal, I'd expect Yzerman to hang up on him! |

Ok, so now the Sabres are gonna Land Fowler, Vesey, Kucherov and possibly Nash if the Sabres can move Kane? That would be quite an off season. - Jeropotato
Tim Murray is both a sniper and a silent assassin He watched the market like a Stock Broker waiting to strike!

I believe Tampa has demonstrated that it knows how to effectively maintain it's status as a desirable location with a cup challenging team. I view this decision in that light. It would be good to at some point address the disparity among teams due to currency values and tax rates. |

Wait what? Is that serious? He had 19 points in 17 games this past playoffs, 11 goals. If that is small I can't imagine what someone has to do to play well in the playoffs. |

Yeah, he came up small in their last series. One goal.
My second favorite team is Tampa. I'm not diminishing his value as much as I am Garth's proposals. That being said, seems most of the Russian players come up a bit short, in long playoff series. Their heart just seems to fade when time and space are taken from them, and in the playoffs, everyone gets punished. Just an observation, I know there are exceptions to every rule. |

Are you of the opinion that most Russian players fade as a series goes on? |

He had one game winning goal that series. Crosby had 2 goals the entire series. When it gets that deep in the playoffs it's the depth guys who win the series like Rust did that last game. The teams go out to stop the star players. Two seasons ago when the Bolts made the finals Kucherov had 22 points. Past two runs the Bolts made were very long and he has 41 points in 43 games. Seems pretty solid |

And after all that happens Murray will pull a Rex Ryan and say we won the off season.
Sooner or later Garf will get one right...the odds are in his favor, right? I do believe Fowler and Nash are possibilities. The other 2 I highly doubt.

.....and as I said, I'm not bashing Kucherov, only making the point that he isn't an 8+ million dollar player. Yes, the depth players help win the series, but it's the guys who take a team on their backs while being shadowed who are worth the 8+million. I'd take Kucherov any day on my team....at 6mil, not 8. Other than that my friend, you and I are on the same side!!
....and to the other gentleman who asked if I think Russian players fade as the series get tougher.......yes, I do. I admit there are exceptions, as there are in almost any situation, but they do seem to fade. Just an opinion, not a hater! |

We are kind of on the same page...I agree he is not an $8m per year guy but could see how it is close. Not on the same page because of the playoff thing. Kucherov the past two playoffs, 41 points in 43 games which is 0.95 per game. Look at Kane and Toews. Remove this years playoffs from the stats because they did not go deep. Look at 2014-2015 and 2013-2014 playoffs where Chicago went deep so it's comparable to Tampa the past two years. Kane has 43 points in 42 games, 1.02 per game and Toews has 38 points in 42 games or 0.90 points per game. Those guys are making $10m+ per season and their playoff performances are no stronger compared to Kucherov. Kucherov has yet to break the 70 point mark in the regular season and that counts. You have to have a good regular season to make the playoffs so what he does there matters. $6m per is comparable to Forsberg in regular season stats but Forsberg has been quiet in the playoffs. If we could lock Kucherov up for 6 years at $7m MAX I think I would be ok with that. |

Maybe my reading comprehension has diminished over the years, but where exactly did Garth say we should/will go after Kucherov?? |
