Spot on, boosy. As annoyed as I am with Kane, would be poor asset management to dump him at this point. But he's earned his inevitable spot in trade rumors that will pop up around him this year. |

I think Benning has stressed he's looking for 'quality character' players, which would suggest he's not in the running for Kane. That said, you can't argue with Kane's on-ice stats and play, he would make for an interesting reclamation project. I think his off-ice issues could be addressed by having quality role models in the system to mentor him (guys like the Sedins as well as Trevor Linden, who I believe he's said he admires), as well as being close to his family here in Vancouver. |

Although its no guarantee, if they get a first for Kane from Vancouver, it would probably be a lottery pick.
I remember Benning was rumored to be the top contender for the Sabres GM spot and was somewhat disappointed Murray got the job. Now its looking pretty good. |

I don't think you're going to get a first round pick out of anyone for someone who is going to be that much of a risk in terms of off ice behaviour/issues. And as you will note, although Vancouver will be better this year, there is still always the chance they could end up being a lottery team, so the risk would be that much more impactful |

After you tools being stuck that piece of hot garbage on skates, him landing in Vancouver is the best case scenario . |

Curious question...how so with "looking good" concerning Benning / Murray? |

Sounds like a huge headache for guy that usually only puts in 17 or so goals a year. |

He would be a perfect fit in Vancouver, on the ice. But clearly, on the ice, isn't where the problems lie...
Maybe being back in his home town, where his Mom can whup his a$$ if he needs it, would be a good thing for him. And this latest set of issues "should" be a serious wake-up call. Being surrounded by guys like The Sedins and even Trevor Linden, could provide him with some mentoring that could help a lot.
I'd love to see him get his career back on track. I had season tickets to the Giants when he was here and have always loved watching the kid play.
His value is seriously deflated, between the bar incidents, the track-suit scandal, the vegas instagram crap and didn't he also miss a practice in Buf shortly after the trade?
Buffalo would probably be wise to hold off and let him try to play his way out of this valley before moving him...
The good news for Buffalo is, if a deal happens, Jim Benning will be on the other side, so he'll throw in several more draft picks than what you guys even ask for. You'll make out like bandits. Nobody has ever had seller's remorse after making a trade with JB.

I was just thinking that after I left the comment. Its not really fair to compare them, one got a team on the decline and the other a team being rebuilt.
Benning doesn't seem willing to start from scratch and wants to rebuild on the fly, while Murray was willing to go scorched earth. I guess time will tell which worked better, but I would guess Vancouver will be a middling team for the foreseeable future. While the Sabres should be a playoff team, if not this season, next. |

If Winnipeg didn't want Kane and now Buffalo doesn't want him, why would another team trade a lottery pick 1St for the guy?
If anything it's Buffalo trading their 1st + Kane to get rid of him.

If Vesey signs or you can get Nash for next to nothing, deal Kane. If neither can happen, keep him for a year while Nylander seasons.
The issue isn't that Kane is some kind of murderer, it's that they do not want him around 15 or 23 anymore. Period. |

No Thanks. Put the phone down JB. You got a cheaper, younger power forward in JV. Stay the course. No more trading of young #1 picks.
I feel like something bad is about to happen......

There is 0 chance a 1st gets moved for Kane. Maybe a 2nd rounder or prospect |

Pach,
I agree with your blog 100%. Right now he is damaged goods and there is no point in trading him. Let GMTM have a "come to Jesus" meeting with Kane and his agent and tell him to shape up off ice and produce like a $5million + guy on the ice. See how he responds. If he doesn't respond (on/off the ice), trade him at the deadline - if we aren't in playoff contention.
Also, I certainly don't want to rush Nylander into the line-up and I think Moulson regaining his 30+ goal years is extremely wishful thinking. Getting rid of Kane now would create a big hole in the top 6 for us because I don't think Vesey is signing with Buffalo. The next guy on the list would be Foligno - yikes!
Lastly, I live in B.C. and watch a lot of Canuck games. They are my #2 team. I can tell you, besides Horvat, Hutton, Virtanen and Olli Juolevi, there isn't anything on the Canucks roster that I would want to trade for. But we are talking about Jim Benning - the master of the one-sided trade. |

That's the huge factor.
The Sabres have such a young team, this kind of attitude could be poison in the dressing room.
Kane needs a few babysitters to keep an eye on him, and to teach him how to be a pro.
Leave the mentoring in Buffalo to true pros like Ryan "Hey, let's go for donuts" O'Reilly.

O'Reilly was fine before and has been fine after. He'd actually exceeded expectations on the ice. Kane has been underwhelming on and off the ice.
I'd love to have Kane as a 2nd, 3rd line speedy grinder but he just needs to stop being so dumb |

i still think Kane is perfect Vegas bait. Sabres just have to deal with his shenanigans for one more year.
He takes up cap space and is an actual player, not a piece of garbage like most teams are going to expose. |
