Has Bergen ever gone into detail about that experience with keenan at all? remember reading bit pieces here and there.

Happy birthday Bill Barber!

Re Bergen: I always got the impression that no matter what coach he ended up playing for, he just didn't have the heart to succeed long term in the NHL.

He's been kind of reclusive, from what I have heard.

Maybe not, but the little bit of time Bergen was around, he definitely made an impression.

I agree. May have continued to put up numbers for awhile but he didn't really have passion for the game and that would have caught up eventually.

I thought Bergen had been injured during his call up, and Abdominal injury of some kind, and Keenan berated him for not playing through it....but that could just be an urban rink myth.

During his time with the Flyers, I remember him complaining at one point about knee pain. But none of the doctors could find anything wrong with it.

He did have what today would be called a sports hernia, but that didn't really surface as a big issue until Bergen's short-lived return to hockey the next season after the trade to Minnesota.

Bergen had wanted to pursue a pro golf career rather than hockey. But, yes, Keenan was quite tough on him, believing him to be soft and a one-dimensional player.

There was a column in The Hockey News, years ago(maybe ten or so) by Mike Brophy about Bergen. I think he's a golf pro out in BC near Vancouver now. Sounded really bitter about things.

What did he do?

Hopefully more than signing a good AAAA player to a fair two way deal

It's a good signing, after all, with Akeson long gone, someone needs to be our Art Ross candidate.

The high AHL salary could help if they try and put him through waivers.

Possibly, but O'Neill, Brennan, Miele, and Conner are all getting as much or more than him in the AHL.

All will also have to be sent through waivers, correct?

I think the idea is that it acts as a deterrent to teams who might wanna grab him off of waivers, but dont wanna pay him that much.

Well he ordered the Tiramisu for desert when his lunch is delivered so I guess he did well in that area.

Hinkie offered him a triple fudge brownie for the Tiramisu if Hexy would agree to include 2 mid-day snacks of his choosing.

Hexy promptly kneed him in the groin.
