Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Development Camp Schedule, Roster, UFA Watch, Luongo As the Vancouver Canucks prospects head to Vancouver Island to begin the on-ice portion of their development camp, a murky goaltending situation in Florida leads to questions about Roberto Luongo's health and possible salary-cap implications, and a number of ex-Canucks remain on the market as UFAs.

Unless there is an absolute lack of quality in the exposed goal tenders, it's doubtful Vegas would take Luongo at his age. The Panthers will likely have to expose skaters that Vegas would be better off selecting.

Looks like there's not much money left to go around - Russell would do well to take what he can get at this point. I sure hope that the Canucks are not looking to add him. If he turned down 4 million for 4 years he's obviously looking for that home run contract. I think he is out-pricing himself in this current market -see how that turned out for Franson.

NJ and Carolina still have to get to the cap floor.

Devils still have to get Palmieri extension done and Carolina has Rask and Murphy to extend. Those moves will get them both above cap floor.

If Roberto decides to retire and give the Canucks the middle finger we are screwed. It does serve Roberto better to go on injured LTIR though and collect all his money

I see Granlund as a utility guy. The fact the Canucks still checked out Cracknell makes me think Jim wasn't set on the fourth line

Even the guys signed to 2 way contracts will be making really good money playing in Utica.

Rendulic gets 200K in the AHL

Isn't that so other teams are less likely to claim them if they put them on waivers?

Think he's pencilled him as a 4th line energy guy. Surprised he got a one way contract

As it stands, we have Megna and Larsen on 1 way contracts. We have Burrows that is a question mark where he fits in. Not saying he doesn't fit but it's unclear the role he wI'll assume this year. That's 2 roster spots we could be potentially freeing up. My guess is Benning has to be thinking a trade is possible or he will be waiving some of these guys right out of the gate.

Burrows and Sbisa?

I was guessing we would be carrying extra d in the pressbox but if we have extra forwards that will require waivers to go to Utica, maybe some moves will be made.

if you are going to risk waivers, the start of the season is when to roll the dice.

"Nucks are the new dumpster fire of the division. Virtanen does not look impressive. Loui is 32, twins are old and are going to be re-signed to anchor contracts so all 3 can decline together. Miller is not even a top 15 goalie anymore.

Maybe they should actually rebuild, instead of going for 9th place?

This is from Tanner's thread - other than the Miller comment, see if you can spot or poke holes into any of these arguments Obviously an intellectual collosus if there ever was one, yes

Lots of Flames fans (most) have been sharp like beach ball since they fluked their way into the PO's a few years back. Don't worry they have their hands full in Calgary with no 3rd and 4th line scoring whatsoever and yet another backup goalie in Elliott.

how many dumpster fires are happening at the same time? have the other fires been put out yet?

Miller is just as good as anything in Calgary, Edmonton and Zona...

like our d better than Edmonton's.

I'm not worried about poking holes, just looking forward to the fall to see how it all plays out. we were still in playoff contention for most of last season until Bartkowski was getting #1 minutes.
