I'd prefer to see the Devils go out and take a shot on a bottom pairing defenseman today. Someone like Wiz?

It sounds like he kept bothering that source and they just wanted to be left alone.

I think it just comes down to signing NHL players. I like the idea of giving Santini and Helgeson the light of day, though.

Mc Leod will be the center of the palmieri/boucher line in two seasons. He is the play making center these guys need to have huge seasons. In three to five years Mc Leod will be called the steal of the 2016 draft.

Devils definitely need another defenseman but I don't think they have the trade chips to bring in a Fowler or Shattenkirk. There are still some decent D-men available in FA. Luke Schenn maybe?

Shattenkirk won't go for Fowler... he's almost a free agent while Fowler is Larsson's age and will be with his team for longer.

That's why there's a buyer beware on Shattenkirk in the first place.

We have a bottom pairing defenseman; his name is Lovejoy. Adding Wiz would give us 3 #5dmen.

in my opinion both of those guys are just as underwhelming. Both are terribly inconsistent and have yet to hit any kind of stride in multiple locations..

I don't think this is too insane to assume.. but it is a big assumption. Perhaps the biggest assumption is that Boucher will be on the top line.
Unless Zacha totally lights it up at center, my dream vision is

Hall-Henrique-Palmieri
Zacha-McLeod-Bastian
Boucher-Quenneville-Blandisi
Kalinen-Josefson-DSP

IFFFF all those guys mature into their potential, that's a very solid lineup! Don't think of these guys as they are now, but I'm talking pipe dream that they all blossom to or above potential. Imagine these guys in 3-5 years. Hall, Henrique, Palmieri will be 28 year old "veterans" still in their prime, Boucher/Bandisi will be in their prime and past growing pains, the youngest 4 kids will be just entering their prime. No one on this team would be a bum.

Yeah, that's completely fair. Just looking for guys who might have some upside in Hynes's system...

I'd also see if a good package of picks wouldn't get Fowler. Wouldn't kill us to trade a first and we have two second rounders next year thanks to Boston...
