Someone is going to sign Hudler on the cheap with a short term, and get rewarded for it. He should definitely be in the good column.

I think Brandon Pirri got left out of the good target list. I read a pretty convincing break down of his analytics from last year that separated him from a lot of the free agents out there in my mind and he is still quite young.

Just a thought.

Ekblad signs for 8 years at 7.5 AAV. Dermar Derozan(basketball) gets 28.7 AAV for 5 years!! Neither seems worth quite so much. Going to be a crazy day I thinks.

Pretty much every one of these players could be on either list depending on how much and how long they sign for.

To Dcoms

Ekblad is lowkey one of the best players in hockey. 100% worth it.
When I think of the "next wave" of NHL stars, with forwards it's easy. Tarasenko, McDavid, Schiefele, MacKinnon, Mathews and Laine now too. With defencemen, I think: Ekblad, maybe Nurse, Ekblad, Trouba?, EKBLAD, Jones I guess, Aaron Ekblad, Klefbom, Lindholm, and Gus. Then I get mad at myself mid comment for forgetting Roman Josi and John Klingberg, who are even better.

I still can't figure out why Louie Eriksson is getting overlooked by pretty much everybody. He is coming off a 30-33-63 season and he's one of the best defensive forwards in the game!

I pretty much agree with this. Also agree that Hudler might be the low cost jackpot. I think Pirri sucks and Stalberg is m'eh.

I wish the Pens had more money to spend. Really wish JR would have shipped off Fleury and Kunitz for picks/prospects. $9.6M would go a long way in free agency for two players who are probably no longer needed. While free agents tend to have an inflated price, you get them for free!

I think Staal is a pretty bad target unless no one is interested and his price is driven down to the 2-3 mil AAV range. Otherwise stay away. He's visibly taken big steps backwards every year for two or three years now. I see a lot of Vinny LeCavallier in this one. Stay clean away.

Frans Neilsen is a center. And if he was willing to take 4.5-5 he'd still be an Islander

I don't know what's going on with pirri but if he's real cheap I'd take a flyer.

Pirri is a poor man's Brandon Sutter - no thanks. If Cullen is signed and if Fehr isn't moved and with Sund close to ready, there isn't room or a need for another center. LW and D or bust.

Sutter would have been a nice player for ~1 mil. Pirri can play center or wing. Wouldn't mind the signing at all.

Typical Jets fan puts Scheifle on his list of elite young forwards and leaves off Eichel, Draisaitl, Gudreau and Hall.

I don't see any good looks there for the money & term that they're going to want - even KO - how much of his success was driven by playing with JT ?

I agree with the exception of Demers. I think Okposo benefited greatly by playing with Tavares. He can probably create some on his own, but put him with an average center and I bet he doesn't look all that great anymore. A lot of good FAs left off this list, some of whom can probably be had for not much money/term.

No locks, but early expectations: Lucic goes to Oilers. Nielsen goes to Red Wings. Ladd goes to Isles and Eriksson goes to Canucks. #hunch
