I like Schwartz, but if he isn't signed to a reasonable long term deal and it goes to arbitration, the Blues need to shop him before the arbitration deal ends. Him and his agent seem to want too much and aren't moving down.

Would you be willing to go 6M+ on Schwartz if we can get him locked up for 8 years? Say 50M over 8 years for an AAV of 6.25M. This would lock him up through is prime and into his UFA years, similar to the Tarasenko deal.

I realize health is the big question mark on that long and valuable of a contract but I'd hate to go the route of a bridge deal and lose him in just a couple of years.

The only way I go above 6 is if it is an 8 year deal.

Agreed. Seems like Blues battle Newport Sports Management ever time. Kind of annoying.

No moves as of yet, that means we probably go into free agency w/o Backes or Brouwer signed and risk losing both of them for nothing. Schwartz needs to sign soon so we know the cap room we will have.

I don't want to lose Backes but if he is really looking for over 5.5 it is time to let him walk. That price is too much for him but i we already have offered that at 3 years. Maybe give him 5 years see if he likes that.

We find out tomorrow????? if Sobotka comes back? Then if he does where does he slot in if he will actually play for us? 3rd or 4th line? Reaves, Upshall, Brodziak, Jaskin, Sobotka, MPS, Rattie, all fighting for ice time.

Any word on if they plan on resigning Ott?

Hopefully we get to see Barbashev get some time soon. See what kind of chemistry him and Jaskin have together.

Do you think Shero would flip Hall to the Blues for Shatty or is the agent telling every team that he wants to be a free agent, destroying his trade value?

i was kind of wondering that myself if it was a way to get Shattenkirk by way of getting Hall. That is what is thought to be Army's asking price from the Oilers

I wish. Both for the sake of the Blues, and for the reaction of Oilers fans if Hall gets traded for an extended Shattenkirk. I think we are dreaming... but then, I never thought Larsson would get Hall either.

All rumors and speculation. Doesn't mean anything. He could have sold his house cause they plan on getting a different/ bigger house or maybe they got sick of the neighborhood. Just cause someone puts their house up for sale(not sure if he did or did not) does not mean they are leaving town. Thats all i have today. But of course he is heading to free agency and that says a lot cause he turned down our previous offer. Other teams might overpay. Hell Coyotes have 2 players on their roster that are not playing. 1 is in the h.o.f. They have 12.5 roughly in cap hits with 2 players that will never play for them. Maybe a bottom dweller team cap wise will offer him 7 mill for 5 years

He listed it, then took the listing off the market 2 weeks ago.

The bridge contract Schwartz signed was substantially an under payment that Army benefitted from. I cannot help but wonder if a promise were made. So $6 million I am fine with but not really more.

But I agree, my riginal thought was about five to five and a half.

There other aspects as well that fabor Schwartz a bit but if the ask is what it is rumored that is insane and might be a more passive way of forcing a trade than asking for one.

No St. Louis player under Armstrong has been really drug through the mud when askng for a trade. Even when the player and agent have been quiet the Blues have leaked the trade request though and on some level that is nick, not so much a knock on a player's reputation.

Trade request, Army leaked it after he traded Elliot. But if I am Elliot i am wanting to be traded when my stock is at its peak and the team i am with is going to have me as a backup also. I do not fault Elliot. I think we should have given Moose the starting job this next season and resigned him. Allen may be the future but Elliot has played great under this system. Maybe Army thinks the system will change next year with Yeo. Wo i still cannot believe Yeo will be our coach. I don't know much about him, i don't scout out or pay much attention to other teams like some of you guys do and i definitely do not do research or anything on them.

Army trying to stay clean but does speak honestly when asked certain questions it seems. Contract disputes with Sobotka, Moose's trade request, the offer for Backes for 5.5 for 3 years. Why does the public need this info? I understand it because i would like to know what is going on with my team from a fans view, but really that stuff should be kept out of the media. Kind of like what Yzerman and Stamkos did. Relatively quiet.

Jammer thanks to looking into the house thing.

I did not believe it for a second the time frame was off the money and term I have seen before and again as having been rejected.

Why does Garth even bother writing when he seems to know nothing anout the game or even bother to do a cursory search of the internet?

That kind of stuff bothers me immensely, just like John Jackel writing he thought Backes acted like a spoiled cry baby or some such stuff. And when you make a legitimate comment in return he posts Backes getting hurt by Seabrook and talks smack. Silly.

They bought out Jackman???? damn

Bring him back for 1 Mill for 3rd line duties as a 6-7 d man. but its impossible. We currently have Bortuzzo, Edmundson, and Lindbohm, fighting for 1 spot.

Screw JJ. Deletes comments is an antagonizing wiener and if Backes were to somehow sign in Chicago he would absolutely LOVE him. I saw what he was saying, i just chose not to feed into his poop. Trying to talk to him is pointless, he reacts in childish ways. No need for that bullpoop name calling and slandering.

If Army can get him signed in the 5's with term, he's one hell of a negotiator. He's kind of handcuffed at 6 now by the Forsberg deal. With such similar stats and Schwartz having two less restricted years, I don't see how they could take less.

Been shooting this rumor down all day. The only way this is true is if they agreed to a sale with someone and never actually closed or posted it. Their listing was taken down without a sale after 3 days.

Blues have the following NHL roster locked up

F -11 - Tarasenko, Stastny, Steen, Lehtera, Berglund, Reaves, Brodziak, Upshall, Jaskin, Fabbri, with Schwartz to be added.
F - Options - Rattie, Paajarvi

D - 7 already accounted for
G - 2 accounted for once Nilsson is signed.

This leaves the Blues with just under 15 million in room before signing Schwartz. Consider a cushion and signing Schwartz takes 6 million. This leaves you with 9 million to get 3 forwards. Still no way to get backs and brouwer. Very possible to get 1 of the 2 though or to get 2 slightly lesser signings.

Armstrong said Sobotka is coming back. So that leaves them at 12mil for Schwartz, Nilsson, and 2 other forwards. Schwartz at 6m, Nilsson at 1m, leaves you 5m for two forwards. Definitely not enough for Backes. Might be enough for Brouwer, but only if you expect the other signing to be a 4th liner and are happy with Jaskin, Sobotka, & Rattie fighting for the last top 9 spot.
