Baffled because I could have seen RNH or Eberle in this trade but Hall is the Heart and Sole of the rebuild. Set the Franchise back 10 years

Are you comparing 28 year old Petry to 23 year old Larsson. Because 23 year old Petry had 5 career points.

Good ole Pete has now traded away the no 1 and no 2 picks in the 2010 draft...oiler fans I am sorry. Hall for Shattenkirk? Even that is a bit tough to swallow. Hall for Larsosn? Larceny (no pun intended) on the part of Shero and the Devils. Stunned.

Schultz failing to progress is what it is.
trading a franchise cornerstone for a question mark is chiarellis doing all on his own. Schultz's failings have nothing to do with it. And certainly nothing to do with mact.

Having 2nd pair petry would be nice right now for sure.
Would really only mitigate the need for a top pairing guy somewhat though.
And maybe pc believes he really does have his guy...


End of the day, chiarelli might have two of the all time worst moves made by an oiler gm both on his resume.
I'll hold off judgement for now, but the deal for reinhart is certainly a question mark as well at this point.

I do not disagree that the oilers lost this trade Matt as they abvioisly gave up the far superior player. With that said your complete over the top negativity over the past few months on this site and others has has come to an all time tipping point. The other bloggers out there give rational opinions and insightful information that you are simply lacking. It's scary to consider that a better comparison might be a young Barret Jackman. Jackman was also a "first pairing" defenseman when the Blues had no better options, could "play 25 minutes a night" and put up (in his twenties) around 20 points a season, never earning much powerplay time... which I guess now qualifies as a "puck moving" defensemen; and took all the toughest defensive draws.

I'm curios though, are there any actual top end defensemen who were held to 18 points in 82 games as a 23 year old?

I swear this isn't me guys.

That's the cost to fill the hardest position in the NHL. A top 2 Dman, 24 making 4.1 mil for the next 5 years. Easier to replace Hall than find a Larsson.

Great write up Matt... it boggles my mind that people who claim to be "press" rush to defend lopsided and terrible deals like this. Way to speak the truth.

I'll keep your advice in mind, but I do this for two of the largest independent online hockey publications in the world and I have a real job.

It boggles my mind why the trade was made but at the end of the day every other GM in the league knew the Oilers needed a D man. But really don't you think Eberle could've been traded in a a package deal for for Larrson?

Never been a big Hall fan but this is worse than the Seguin trade. Nobody was sure what Seguin was but Hall is a proven star even on a bad team. Should have gotten at least one first rounder also.

I don't think it's as bad as some are making it out to be. I'd assume he's not done yet, plus, they just finished second last in the league yet again but you don't want change....I don't get it!

The cost to acquire a young defenseman is obviously really really high. Ryan Johansen had 63 points 33 goals as a 22 yr old, 71 points 26 goals as a 23 yr old CENTER, do you think he should've returned more than Seth Jones?

But dude, it must be hard to cover a team whose management has consistently blown deals. Hall for Larsson is a let down for sure. Don't be upset that the blogger shares the pain that many Oiler fans also share.
