Todd Cordell: Damon Severson Linked To Edmonton Oilers

Don't want to see Severson traded, but I'd be real happy to see this team finally have a real #1 center. Allows Zacha or Henrique to play wing or Zajac play 3rd line center/PK where he belongs.

Lol add how much to Severson to get RNH? You'd think Edmonton would start getting a little desperate to add some defense to try and finally win but I guess they've gotten so used to losing that they'll keep waiting and losing until that fat trade offer comes along

I don't know if they have a few days to figure it out. It's not a secret that Edomonton is going to be aggressive in finding a RHD this offseason, and if Nugent Hopkins is really available, I think the Oilers will get quite a few offers.

its no secret that severson is awesome and available. But RNH straight up is not fair value. Doesnt mean every trade is " fair" for both teams. If shero can rangle RNH for severson alone, good on shero, and terrible on chia and my oil.

I'm a big fan of Severson and Larsson. But am I the only one who thinks we should keep Severson and trade Larsson instead? I guess I just see way more up side to Severson game, idk maybe I'm a little to attached to Severson after watching him play his junior in the WHL. I'm interested in what your guys thoughts on this.

I'd agree with you, and that's what worries me. Edmonton seems to be willing to part with young talent for some immediate help on D. While I'm really high on Severson, he's not an immediate impact guy. Given Edmonton's track record with young, unproven talent, I can't imagine they'd take another flyer. Does EDM have any interest in Kinkaid or Wedgewood? Does that even sweeten the deal though?

I would love RNH to Jersey... But I dont agree it should be Severson. I think he has alot of upside to his game that will only get better. Take Moore and pick or picks

Severson 2-3 years from now might get you RNH straight up. Of course that's thinking Severson will be a top pairing dman by then. Devs no doubt would need to sweeten the deal. Maybe take back Fayne and his disaster of a contract. Or surrender a top draft pick. Be pretty impressive if Shero can make this happen.

Larsson and Severson play different. Larsson right now and for the coming years will be our rock back there.. No way I trade him. Severson will only get better and with that said don't want him traded either....

I just want to know how much to add for a fair value and also consider the paths both teams are on. Oilers have been losing badly for a while now and are moving into a new building I would hope that ownership would want to be competitive next year not be a lottery team with high chances at a top 3 pick. Devils do need scoring but I don't think the need to win is as urgent IMO. It's not like a ransom situation where a cap strapped team needs to make a bad trade to open cap space but I do think the Devils have a little bit of an upper hand, by maybe a rounds worth on a draft pick or something similar prospect wise.

And a top prospect lol I would walk away from that right away Nuge is good but he isnt worth Severson plus a top prospect. Taylor Hall Maybe but I wouldn't be adding much if its going to take more and look for help from other teams.

Severson seems pricey for a guy who scored 12 goals last year...

Not really serious about that, but just saying for perspective. RNH missed time and only played 55 games. He had 22 assists while Damon put up exactly 1 goal and 20 assists.

He may have upside, but he is not yet a top 2 dman. Maybe a #4 on a team.

Article should be edited too as he is 21 and has only reached 60 points once in his career. With 38 points in 123 NHL games is .3 ppg. Not horrible, but true top 2 dmen are over .5 ppg

Haha! Hey, there were plenty of Devils fans, some that are probably commenting in this thread, that were super upset when Fayne left. So take this trade proposals with a huge grain of salt. And enjoy Mark Fayne.

I would much rather Draisaitl over RNH... Drai can also play right wing which we currently have a hole, I think he would cost more though

I think the Oilers should get some type of sweetner on that deal (or Fayne coming back) but PPG isn't everything when it comes to playing defense. In today's NHL it sometimes seems that way but playing actual defense is still important. Andy Greene isn't a big points guy but he's a solid top pair defenseman. Larsson is better then Severson but hasn't put up much either (although he hasn't been given much PP opportunity either).

Did you guys see tanners 'blog' on Larsson for Hall? Thoughts on this trade?
