I will say this, some of the Habs brass (Coach, GM, and company) were seen getting on a plane to Toronto. Presumably to speak to newport sports about him.
There was also speculation that Subban was coming back from vacation (in France) for the pitch.
This is all second (probably third) hand information so take it for what it's worth |

Don't doubt they'll try, I won't hold my breath though. |

So Subban is the biggest cap hit among D-men.
Price could be the biggest cap hit when he is set for UFA in 24 months.
And they want to sign a guy that likely is the biggest cap hit among forward.
Seems like a recipe for long term success |

The cap never seems to be on Bergevin's mind, so that shouldn't be an issue |

Stammer could be headed anywhere... except New Jersey apparently.... The rumors are all over the place. You want to know where he's going? Where ever he wants.

He probably has 2 or 3 destinations on his mind, max. But he already with what team.
I don't believe in Toronto. I don't believe in Buffalo either.
For me he wants to play for NYR or MTL and maybe Detroit. |

Sign and trade with Buffalo going down tomorrow. Stamkos gets 8 years 93m with BUF, buf sends to TB a conditional 2017 2nd which changes to a 2017 first if the sabres make it to the conference finals. |

i also heard that the leafs are going to pay Stamkos 3.5-4 million dollar marketing deal over and above the players salary. Already approved by the league |

That's the thing...I see these "hockey insiders" weighting in on this, even putting odds for each team. Nobody knows except Stamkos himself. |

If somehow in miracle world Stamkos signs in Montreal.
I fully expect some Leafs fan to have a stroke.
P.s. Great blog as always! Best Habs blogger imo! |

As mentioned above... the cap implications down the road could make it near impossible. Subban Price and Stammer would take up $30M of the cap... would be hard to be competitive to sign 19 other guys to play beside them. |

Signing Stamkos would be a head case for each years of his contract. |

Molson Therrien and bergevin went to Toronto to meet with Shaw and sign the deal. Not Saying they didn't talk to Newport but that was the official reason. |

All that is very true, but if it brings us a cup then i don't care. Still, I don't see it happening... I'd rather we make a move for Eriksson to play with Plek on the 2nd line. |

If PK wasn't part of a braintrust to try to woo Stamkos to Montreal (and let's face it, he wouldn't be because management is too dumb/arrogant/pigheaded), then there is 0% chance of landing Stamkos. Down from the 0.13% chance if PK were actually on that plane. Of course PK is probably already in Toronto...so all is not lost. |

Stamkos is not coming to MTL, like all high end FA, he is using MTL to increase his value. |

not how it works with the big fish. they don't need to artificially increase their value by listening to other teams. look at Babcock. all it took was 2 teams in that race. |
