Im an islander fan and i love matt martin but a team is going to make a serious mistake with him. He is an amazing guy off the ice he does so much for kids in the community, he always has time to stop for a picture or autograph and never seems to be in a bad mood if your a fan....
But on the ice hes not worth the big contract. Yes he leads the league in hits but what is that worth in todays NHL? Some team ia going to give martin 3-4 million a year. If he haa a good season and has 10 goals and 10 assists for a career high of 20 points is that worth 3 mil?
On a personal level i hope he gets paid, he has always been polite to me and my girlfriend when we have met him. But from a business stand point i just dont see over paying him |

I like the Red Wings but I hate the idea of breaking up the Martin-Cizekis-Clutterbuck line. Really fun to watch |

Because he wasn't rude to you and you're girlfriend you hope some team gives him a few million more then he's worth?! Are you and your girlfriend so annoying that people deserve massive paydays if the don't tell you to screw of? Or is our expectation of athletes now that low? |

A good contract for Matt Martin would be $1.5M maximum. Anything above Would be too much. The guy is OK but really One dimensional. |

Just a smoke and mirrors show by Holland. No chance he's interested in Martin at the rumoured figures. It would not surprise me in the slightest that the Martin interest has been floated to draw attention away from their pursuit of Stamkos.
Holland is among the most experienced and most intelligent GM's around the league (as we saw with the ARI trade on draft day) and it's precisely tactics like this that are a part of his toolbox.
Call me crazy, call me a conspiracy nut, but something doesn't smell quite right about this... Just a hunch. |

Holland has made his fair share of bad signings. Tootoo and Weiss just to name a few. |

you're crazy. The wings are exploring all their options, if/when Stamkos takes more than a few days to make a decision, they may have their hand forced into signing one of the other guys available instead |

while i agree tootoo was a terrible signing, and theres other deals that holland has made i think are bad,
Its hard to blame him for Weiss, no one knew he would be that bad |

I don't really blame him on the Tootoo signing that much he said at the time it was an experiment type signing and he went out of his comfort zone when he made the offer I personally think someone like Babcock was telling him to take a chance on Tootoo or something
But I agree with you on Weiss I don't think anybody thought he would be that horrible

welp, no stamkos - digitalbath
Thats really rough...the plan b is quite a ways down. Just read an article saying it came down to Tbay Det and Buff. So close.... Anyways no point talking about it now. Personally next on my list would be either Islander. Okposo would be an awesome pick up. Nielsen would fot a huge whole as a 2way center who can play in all situations. And we could sign both of them for a little more than the price of stamkos.
We also need to fond a way to swing a trade for a dman. Idk how but we would get far without somewhat of an upgrade to that top 4 |

Im almost to the point that unless they can get Backes AND one of Okposo/Lucic/Erikson, which is basically impossible
we should be looking to rebuild, we are a FRINGE playoff team at best, and we have only a few very high prospects with most of the core aging hard (which is the biggest issue moving any of said players)
keep Mrazek, larkin and Dekeyser, as well as Mantha Snevechnikov, maybe Russo and 1 or 2 other young kids, and ship everyone else we can
i assume that Z, Howard and Big E contracts gonna be the hardest to move if we played hypothetical. which holland wouldnt do it so whatever, but Kron contract also not great but cap hit is low, so it would be easier than the others |

well.
I was not overly confident that Stammer was going to be a Red Wing, so today's events were not overly shocking (well Stamkos anyways... the others, yikes).
so whats the next step boys?
All I know is this, Larkin better not be moved for a defencemen, unless its a #1. That talk, even though it is more teams asking price, makes me nervous. |

Put this in the tampa chat but i just figured you guys would also appreciate this
So you know whats blowing my mind about this
I knew taxes were a big factor, but i never really did the math on how MUCH tampa has an advantage over other teams (not complaining) just sorta crazy when you think about it
it hit me when i thought about it this way, Detroit would have to pay Stamkos 11m to really have him make the same amount as 8.5m in tampa, 2.5m more, to MAKE THE SAME
so lets say detroit signs 2 giant players like toews and kane, and we have a cap hit of 22m between the 2 of them, 11 per player per year
we would have 5 million less than tampa would to play with because of taxes and all the players would make the same, so tampa could go out sign the same 2 players at 8.5m and have an EXTRA FIVE MILLION to sign additional players..
thats insanely good for tampa
ALSO this is for in the US (detroit) taxes, this isnt even taking into consideration canadian dollar/taxes so Toronto would have had to pay him 12.6m per year for it to equate to 8.5 in tampa
so two high end players at 12.6m a year being the SAME amount a player makes in tampa at 8.5, means tampa has an EXTRA 8.2 MILLION ... think about that thats another 1st like foward in salary cap advantage |

TB could also gave them 1 extra year which would make it closer to 14M/year to equate monetary value. Then consider the weather, doesn't have to move his whole family... Did we really have a chance? Not if I was Stamkos. |
