He deserves a raise but he knows how the salary cap works I think he just liked his experience here and understands what his role in the organization is. Could lead into a coaching job in the future. There is also life after being a player. Ask Gonch, Billy G,Recchi etc |

His interview on the ice after the game with his kids looked like they really like the Burgh - happy wife happy life! |

Sundqvist in the AHL is not a bad thing at all. He already has some NHL experience which makes him a suitable call up at any point of the season. More development will only help him out. His days in the NHL are close at hand. |

This would be good news. Gives us the depth that we had and let's Sundqvist develop a little more. I'm actually excited we don't/won't make free agent splash this year. This team is already good. |

Best hockey I have seen played in many years. I look forward to this team taking another run at it this coming year as well.
Well done. |

Welcome return. Will fill out the roster though so anybody wanting to add a wing needs to subtract a forward. Otherwise, same group that won the Cup plus Wilson......which is a pretty good spot. |

Not a single place is saying he will return to Pittsburgh. In fact they all are being very vague and only saying he wants to play a 20th season. Even the tweet in your article says there isn't much cap room for him. Why is everyone acting like its a done deal already? I guess there truly isn't much to talk about in the off-season. |

Good news indeed. Wish I could say the same for Mark Recchi's HOF bid.
Someone please explain to me how Makarov makes it and Recchi doesn't? Lindros and Makarov were more high profile, but 4 Cups with the numbers Recchi collected over the years? Its a SIN he isn't in there yet.

HOF's a joke, that's why...
Induction now is meaningless. Hall of Pretty Good, everything is a participation medal these days...

At a third of the Salary!!!
Cullen should sign for 1M or 1.2M for his farewell year...this would be a fair deal for both sides, & with Brittle Beau gone, & Sundqvist in the AHL. That should leave just enough to sign Shultz, or another depth D. |

I don't think enough people are talking about this. All of the Cap room numbers include Sundqvist on the big club roster. With his contract being a two way contract, his cap hit comes off the books if he is in WBS, so if Cullen signs, it really won't affect the cap space much. |

Great news. Problem is he deserves a pay raise. We can pay him $1M but if he's looking for more money, we probably have to move Fehr or someone. |
|

Supposedly Cullen has said he won't return at 800k. Still probably gets done here at 1.2. I think high side he could see $2. Also I've heard we've reached out to Bonino, but I have trouble seeing how we extend him now before the expansion draft. |

Just as glad to hear Cullen is coming back, as I was to hear he had been signed by the Pens going into this past season. He was a key piece to the Stanley Cup Championship, and played MUCH better than a fourth line center.
GO PENS !! |

Makes the add a 7d much tougher. I think lovejoy is willing to come back 1.8 and cullen can probably get done at 1.2. So we could go that route. Schultz I don't think we can afford if Cullen is 500k above sundqvist. Then our top offer could be about 2. |

This off-season there isn't. Downside of Cup win and little roster turnover. |

It doesn't make sense for him to want a lot more money. I would think his only reason for coming back after considering retirement is a chance for a repeat with Stanley. So he's likely to sign a team friendly contract to give them as much flexibility as possible with the remaining cap. |

everyone should be thankful we're not the 2010 hawks where we gotta determine who's part of the core and who needs to get their ass shipped out
Lets appreciate the roster continuity (no disrespect, benjamin lovejoy and Justin Schultz) |

Nope definitely doesnt make sense with a 3 young children at home. Doesnt make sense to make as much as he can for his family while he can..in what could be his final year playing pro hockey... |

When you are considering retiring even when you are still a good hockey player, your financials are probably not your primary motivation to come back another year. They could be, but after watching his post cup interviews, it doesn't seem like it. |
