I spoke with several in the know sources about Stamkos while I attended the NHL Draft in Buffalo over the weekend. - garth
I guess asking someone for an autograph would technical be "speaking" to them.

First off, it's laughable how you never mention the Leafs as a destination for Stamkos when the rest of the world knows it's a fact.
Second, funny how you pick at Detroits cap situation when Buffalo has to sign Risto, Girgensons and Foligno this season plus Eichel and Reinhart in 2018. Hmm.... he'll have to roll the bones there too I guess.
If the going rate for Stamkos is $12M then I'm sure the Leafs are out because they are not stupid. Lou has said it a couple of times. He won't compromise the future of the club with one signing. |

The Sabres have 19M in cap space, plus 4 or 5 contracts coming off the books next season for a total of around 11-12m, there is plenty of space for Stamkos. That's not including loosing most likely a big contract to Las Vegas |

How much do you think Reinhart and Eichel will make?
4-5 contracts coming off? So who will fill the roster?? |

Here is a bit of real news, Garth:
"MLSE has $3.5M in endorsements lined up outside of his SPC that will be a part of their pitch to him this week."
I know your blind hate for the Leafs is strong so you'll choose to ignore it. |

I think his first decision is if he wants to come home to Toronto. This is the unique choice.
Does he want to play at home (not close to home but at home playing for the team he grew up cheering for and the team of his family and friends).
Does he want the biggest possible stage with all of the advantages and disadvantages of that? Lets not be mistaken, Stamkos in Toronto would be a huge media and marketing opportunity. The Leafs are after all owned by Rogers and Bell (two massive media companies).
This is also the Leafs 100th year. Does he want to lead the team into their second century? There is historical significance to that.
If he wants this then he will need to leave money on the table contract wise (though I hope he realizes that he has massive opportunities to make that money up elsewhere).
If he wants this then he will also need to be a bit patient since the Leafs are not yet ready to contend (but it may not be long given the management group and how much progress has been made in such a short time)
If he does not want this then I am sure Buffalo/Detroit/Brooklyn/Tampa all have their strengths and weaknesses that he can analyze but I beleive he needs to rule out Toronto first. |

Then you will have to ask Eklund for a promotion so you can be Garth's boss. |

Actually to me the 3 contenders for Stammers are TOR, BUF, & TB with the NYR as that darkhorse solely bc they are those a**holes who jump in this all the time and either get the player or drive the price higher then needed.
I think IF BUF and TOR are only willing to go to 10 mil he stays in TB. But if it is a full on bidding war BUF & TOR are the likely places and honestly IDK which would be favored. BUF may be a year ahead in rebuild, but TOR is TOR and he is from there.
Anywhere but DET, BOS, or the NYR is fine with me. |

Depends on their production but probably somewhere in the 7-8M range. We can fill the roster with under appreciated role players and young players built through the system on ELC's. Its basically the Blackhawks model. And don't forget as the game grows, so will the cap, and having a new team (Las Vegas) and possibly another new team will also grow the cap. |

Seriously though, all you do is come on here and try and get a rise out of a blogger who you very well know will not respond. No disrespect but if you are looking for actual hockey talk, why don't you go to Pachlas Sabres blog... |

Garth certainly wears a giant pair of rose colored glasses when it comes to the Sabres. The Sabres have some nice young pieces but I fail to see this "organizational depth". The Amerks failed to make the playoffs. There is not one grade A prospect on that team. All top players played on the NHL team.
Key pieces listed included the washed up (Moulson,Ennis), the third /fourth line types (Foligno, Gergansen, McCabe) to the overrated and flawed (Kane, Kulikov and Bigosian). Heck Vesy is also listed and he's not even signed.
To state Det and Buff as favorites to sign Stammer is wrong. If you chose to believe the experts that is.
Buffalo has some nice young pieces. But it would be foolish to make them out to be world beaters now. The young players must still develop. As does this long discussed "organizational depth" |

The Possibilities in Toronto are endless, like you mentioned, but so would the scrutiny from Media if things don't go well. That would go for anywhere and anyone who is about to become one of the highest paid players in the league.
But in this case it would be magnified, for the reasons you mentioned above. |
