Come on Jason, I can't believe you used a picture of Shatty with his porn mustache! That will definitely hurt his trade value if other GM's see it!

I do think the Yandle deal was brutal......too much and especially too long. But I don't think Shattenkirk will get $7.5 mil or more. You may be right, he might ask for it, hoping a team is as delusional as Florida was with Yandle, but I think he signs for $6.5 or so, especially if he gets to go back to NY or Boston.

What you want for Shattenkirk will change depending upon the timing of the deal. Before the draft you want a young forward that can help today and shows some upside with a pick in the teens, or something like Edmondson's #4. Why? You're going to use the extra cap space to sign Backes. After FA day (7/1) you'll be looking for a Backes replacement so a JvR, Stepan, or a Brayden Schenn make some sense. Why? Backes is gone. Between the draft and 7/1 is harder to predict, but a draft pick you might get would be a year away.

I would rather have a Lucic, but I predict a pre-draft trade - probably with Boston (so #14 and Spooner). Then Armstrong overpays Backes (term and $/yr.).

If he’s looking for $7.5M, I hope the leafs lose interest.

$6.5M is probably max

it's the only photo of him that Ek has. I did a double take when it posted, trying to make sure it really was Shatty, lol.

I have no idea what he is looking for but if I was his agent, I know what I would be asking for thanks to the Yandle deal.

Curious where you guys think Parayko slots if Shattenkirk is moved without another Dman coming back? Will he skate 1st or 2nd rotation and how many minutes can he eat? Safe to assume he steps into the #1 PP unit?

he will slot right into shattenkirk's minutes only getting more 5v5 and more PK, though not much more PK. This assumes no massive sophomore slump.

He was already consistently playing over 20 minutes a night. I'd expect him to average 21-22 minutes a game.

Old news but Hat Tip to Carcus for finishing 2nd in JJ's bracket and a bow to Bellas for winning it.

if you think Chia is gonna dumpster sale Yak for a 3rd rounder after he has shown chemistry with McJesus (i know, who deosnt) then you must be smokin that st louy crunk, or just free basing on the east side

Guess I wrongly assumed he's take over on the 1st unit PP. You guys run 4 forwards and one D so if it's not Parayko on the 1st unit it would be Pietrangelo?

I'm guessing it will be Parayko consistently as the year progresses, maybe even from the start with score and recent shift dictating. Steen plays the other point on the 1st PP.

ETA - My original post meant Parayko would take all of Shatty's minutes and also get more 5v5 and more PK than Shatty did.

Where is tij when you need him? I need someone to explain to me how a 76 point bottom feeding team with no superstars can be right up against the cap.

Yeah I'd say he'll get a few more even strength minutes plus second unit PK minutes and as much PP time as possible, at least to start the season.

Not my thoughts but rather those of a lot of others posting on twitter, blogs, sports sites, etc. If that is really the ask, I'd do it is all I was saying.

Thanks, Jason. I have a hard time keeping my eyes off this kid when he's on the ice. Huge player with real skating ability, soft hands and seems wise beyond his years, an incredible +28 as a rookie.

We'll see what he does if he gets more and important minutes.

if you see a game in person next year of his, watch him in warmups at the end. He usually comes in and does some breakaway moves. Pretty impressive for his age, experience and size. It wouldn't surprise me if he moves up that depth chart next year too.

7th seems like a lot for a pending ufa.

Yotes also have #20 and a number of good forward prospects.

I posted this up on the old page before i saw this new one

Its going to happen at the draft, Edmonton will trade the #4 pick, but to who?

Army you know we cannot resign Shattenkirk next season. Chiarelli wants a righty now. Make a deal happen!!!!! Get a package deal ready for him. Rattie?? Some conditional picks if he does not resign??

Is Shatty alone worth a #4 pick? If Edm is that desperate maybe.

I forgot about it. I knew i was probably going to win if San Jose won it all, and knew at last one guy had the penguins and would pass me if th they won.
