I'm talking about value.... so if Hamhuis and Perron come in for 3-4 each for 2-3 years I think it helps this team more than an overpay for Lucic/Erikkson etc over 6 years.
Like I said there are a lot of quality players on the market and not a lot of cap space to go around. There are going to be some ridiculously good value deals signed, which depending on how the season goes can also likely be flipped for assets at the TDL.

I don't want Hamhuis unless it's a large hometown discount and NO NTC. If he was willing to go to Boston we would have a 2nd round pick right now
In theory I agree with you though. Target a couple mid level UFA's and offer 2/3 year terms and hopefully trade them for picks if we aren't in a playoff position. 5 or 6 year terms are concerning. |

I say no to both Lucic and Eriksson. No doubt they would help the team over the next couple of years, but they are going to want big money on long-term deals. We are not close to a contender and in 3-6 years these contracts would be an anchor that limits our ability to make moves that would help when we are ready to contend again.
Stick to the plan of developing young talent through the draft and add character pieces that fill gaps in the meantime. Maybe look at a player like Brouwer or McGinn as a shorter term solution. |

That would mean Van is in a rebuild.

I agree, and I don't have much hope that we end up with those type of guys as Benning seems pretty intent on making a big splash.

I think every team would want Subban. Typical Dreger stirring the pot by throwing out Vancovuer's name. |

Or just that they are smart enough to give themselves options. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Nielsen outscores Lucic over the next 3 years and will likely come at half the price.

or just out of the playoffs....
if we sign a Perron or similar player to a 2 to 3 year contract, they aren't necessarily traded at the tdl of their first contract year, just different options. |

If Benning does actually sign 2 top UFA's then I expect Hamhuis back (if they can afford all that) because I think the team will switch into to compete mode from rebuild mode. |

With Yandle and Goligoski off the market, Hamhuis is probably the top UFA available on defense. He'd still likely take a discount to play here, but maybe not as significant a cut as he would have otherwise. Someone will likely throw a big number at him Jul 1.
I'd rather see him move on at this point, unless Benning could get someone to take Sbisa.
Too many guys who will require waivers next year on D. I'd rather go with our younger guys like Pedan or see what Larsen can do. |

I would love PK....but not at the cost of Horvat, Tanev and the 5th. |

I don't. for what it would cost to get him would leave a massive hole in the roster somewhere. Vancouver doesn't have the assets to make that trade and not screw themselves. |

Demers I think is still the premier guy.
I agree that Dan will get a big number from someone else but I think he still wants to play in Van and would take a pretty big paycut to remain. |

Horvat is pretty much untouchable because Van has no other young centers. |

the thing people need to remember when signing UFAs is that its not just about signing those players. its also about who you cant sign/trade for in the future. eventually you are going to need to sign bo, sven, jv, boeser, etc to long term contracts for way more money, having lucic at 6 million in 4 years will be a massive problem. |
