- imo, Kopitar had a pretty strong case for Selke
- how Mike Sullivan was not a finalist for jack adams is a travesty
- they should keep awarding the "plus-minus" award so we can see random guys win it

Wow. If only Pysyk and Girgensons were mentioned then this would resemble a Garth blog.

Having some team success/ making the playoffs goes a long way towards winning awards....but awards are overrated anyway.

The James Norris trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League's top "defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position".

All-round ability, not points.

Yes but does anyone think the defense of Doughty made up for the 32 difference in points? It's ridiculous to even say that.

He may be the best rookie of the bunch, but he did not have the best year, which is kind of what the award indicates. The Rookie who had the best year. I don't know how you can have the best year while being injured for half of it.

Show me one credible person who can explain how the difference between their defensive skills is close to ten points, let alone 32 and I'll change my mind, as I do every time I get new information.

Doughty winning that award was the most ridiculous thing in NHL history. Karlsson just had a historic season comparable to only one other defenseman in NHL history.

But not making your team for a 1/4 of the year can get you second? That logic makes no sense.

It's like penalizing Karlsson for his offense and then voting Josi 5th. If you're going to use insane logic, at least be consistent.

I said what if, I am sure someone could come up with an algorithm that shows it...someone open their SAS window and start writing some code

I watched it, the Edmonton joke was hilarious!

The Calder had to go to Panarin who produced from start to finish. There was no way around that.

If he played 82 games we'd be sitting here talking about his Hart Trophy, so I don't think giving him the Calder after 41 games is bad at all.

Jimmy….the NHL awards is voted on by writers, not unlike yourself, except actual professional people….no wonder it's a gong show. Need I say more?

Also, it's not "Keith Seabrook", it's Brent Seabrook.

Lastly, where was I going with this, oh ya, Kopitar > Bergeron

No need to be Butt Sore.
Artemi Panarin deserved the Calder for the full body of work over the year.

McDavis is probably the best player in the NHL at only 19yrs old - so who really cares about the Calder Trophy.

A) Take a huge step back on that one. I think that is a bit of a reach.
B) He didn't, I can play the If Game all day long too.

Normally true, but this is McDavid - he is already the best player in the world.

The NHL awards have always been a joke but it shouldn't be a surprise by now. I don't see how anyone could possibly think that McDavid wasn't "the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League." It wasn't even close. Then again, these are the same people who thought Bob Hartley was the best coach last year.
