doughty is going to win it because he "should have won one by now" according to the media, but karlsson had BY FAR a better year......on a worse team. |

I agree, thinking Doughty gets it but Karlsson did have a much better year. |

I don't think it is as wide open as last season where there could have been dozen winners and an eye would have not been batted. Burns had a tremendous year, and I think might take some of Doughty's "career milestone" votes away, especially from the west. Burns is arguably even more deserving than Doughty based on this season alone.
And this is coming from a big Drew Doughty fan... |

Can we all at least agree it's between Doughty and Karlsson? |

This trophy belongs to Karlsson but Doughty will win because of media love.
In a way this may be the best thing for Karlsson and the Sens if he doesn't win. I want him to come back even better and more hungry next year and by all indications he will. I actually expect Karlsson to flirt with 90 points next season, especially if the Sens can sign another puck moving D to help him out (Campbell).
The Sens will finish 2nd in the division next season and a lot of that will be because of Karlsson. He's going to also be a top 3 nominee for the Hart next season as well.
Go Sens Go! |

Just want to carry this over from the last thread.
if we can move ceci in a package to bring in a top line center.....then (frank)ing do it
I agree 100%. Other than EK and possibly Stone, there isn't one player on this team that I wouldn't include in a package to get a bona-fide #1 center. My point was that it's silly to trade away a guy like Ceci in a move for yet another scoring winger.
and i'm sorry, i like mac, but skinner is a big upgrade over him......especially with his MASSIVE injury concerns at this point.
Skinner is not an upgrade over a healthy Mac. Look at his numbers. The guy gets all the honey mins (top line, 1st line PP) and his numbers aren't great at all. He is also as soft as soft gets. We already have two soft wingers in our top 6 who can't win a puck battle along the boards (Ryan and Hoff). I think it would be ridiculous managing to have 3 of your 4 top 6 wingers incapable of ever winning the puck from the other team.
Our wings are not the problem. Adding wingers, unless we are trading wingers, is a waste of time and not addressing the real issues of this team. |

he's 24 years old, had 30 goals last year.......he's as good as hoffman, who is infinitely better than mac.
i like the guy, but he's not as good as skinner..............and he's wicked injury prone. |

Paul Coffey wasn't the greatest defender in the world, although Karlsson's better at it, both are and were great players. |

I really want to see Karlsson have some playoff success and whether fair or not, he will be judged on that. With the exception of Orr who was only 21, all those defensemen had a lot of playoff success by the time they won their 3 trophy:
Doug Harvey 3 stanley cups
Orr Made playoffs - 3 straight years
Lidstrom 3 stanley cups
Coffey 4 stanley cups, 5 finals
Chelios 1 stanley cup win, 2 finals
Potvin made playoffs - 5 straight years,3 times 2nd round, 1 conference final
Borque 2 stanley cup final, 1 conference finals, made playoffs - 11 straight years
Karlsson might follow Potvin's trajectory, winning 3 Norris and then the following 4 seasons winning the Stanley cup . I think the onus is on the organization to make sure they have a Stanley cup qualifier every season and giving him that chance. A deep playoff run would quiet a lot of critics |

a lot of those are guys who came into the league on "dynasty teams" not really a fair comparison.
imagine if karlsson had been drafted by chicago instead of ottawa.....he'd have 3 cups and probably 4 norris trophies.
i do agree that ottawa should be trying to build a team around him and trying to win now.........but the sad reality is that we have an owner who will never put up the money to make that happen. |

Not to split hairs, but Karlsson is 26 and the Norris for this year hasn't been awarded yet.
If you claim Karlsson is a 4th forward, he had the 4th most points as a forward, provided elite puck possession, elite shot suppression, had some of the best breakout success, and had the most positive on ice impact. He also quarterbacked the power play.
No matter what you call him, he was dominant this year. Since he lined up at and was listed as defense, then he deserves the Norris.
Giving it to Doughty because ' he's due ' is terrible logic. There is little in the way of hard numbers to justify him winning. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE LOVE LOVE doughty. He just doesn't deserve to win this year. He's just playing at the wrong time. He's great, but there is just that one guy who is always a bit better.
NHL.com had 4 writers chose Doughty for the Norriz, and 3 of them cited TOI as a big reason even though his TOI was BELOW Karlsson. How does that logic work? |

Skinner is hot and cold. Skinner looks like he is interested at times and disappears, at others. He is also soft. If for some reason, we don't keep Hoffman, then fine... go after Skinner.
Mac is probably done so the point is moot. Pre-concussion, and based on the guys we already have, I would take Mac and everything he brings over a Skinner. As I said, we already have 2 of 4 soft wingers in our top 6. It would be ridiculous to add a 3rd. |

pre-concussion....maybe, but that's like saying give me "pre hip replacement cowen" or "pre knee replacement michalek" or "pre concussion lindros" etc, etc, etc.
the multiple concussions are a reality that we have to deal with, and given that i'm taking skinner 10 times out of 10 over mac
just my opinion |
