I'm quite happy with it. Gave up a bit for it, however considering the talk was using 30 or 31 on a young goalie anyways which is a crapshoot, we are getting a guy who has experience and has done a good job thus far. Next step, Stamkos. Should that happen, we will need to move some salary including Bozak and possibly JVR in hopes of getting a top 4 d-man. A little patience is ok too though.

yes. move JVR so Stamkos can play with what....the almighty Lupul?

Bozak will be moved to a decent team, dont expect JVR and his 4 mil salary to get traded anywhere, unless its for a top 1st round pick type of scenario.

I think it's as mutually beneficial as a trade can get. Decent return for the Ducks all things considered. And considering Bernier's performance last year, it's hard not to consider it a major upgrade for the Leafs.

Leafs needed a starter and got one. Basically a throw-in from the Kessel deal as it cost them the Pittsburgh spot.............and a second from next year. Andersen is worth the gamble and I believe has big upside potential.

so as Lou and Leaf brain-trust have clearly illustrated .. you should spend the offseason trying to improve your team - in any areas of need.

1) you have to give to get - Leafs gave up to good picks
2) Leafs addressed what most would considered their biggest weakness
3) didn't take on anyone's bad contract

all good...

so why haven't other teams - such as the Oilers started making moves?

not really a fan of us sending out picks already, tells me they think they will push for the playoffs next year
would have much rathered a stay the course year, let some youth gain experience, stock pile picks.

Just dont think this was a must do deal

Unfortunately Lupul isn't going anywhere, so maybe to start however there are other options available too. I would prefer they retain JVR, but to get a solid D-man, you also have to give up. His skill and salary are pretty valuable in the league and unless we go back to mortgaging the future, he's likely the best chip we have to get that d-man.

Like the goalie but think the Leafs overpaid the Ducks and Andersen. Rebuild is not over after 1 year of pain.

Leafs next big goalie saviour: Frederick Andersen.

List of goalies who were also considered saviours:

Bernier
Sparks
Reimer
Scrivens
"The Monster" Gustafsson
Raycroft
Toskgala

And the list goes on and on. Toronto is a place where goalies go to have their careers ended. Andersen it was good knowing you.....

The rebuild started with the Nylander pick 3 years ago. Also throw in the Rielly draft where they finished 5th last.

Considering we have only been back for five years and amassed one of the strongest prospect pools in the NHL. I think our identity is still developing.

The Leafs who have not won a cup since there were only 6 teams in the league, well they are a different story.

I would argue Andersen is much better than all those previous leafs G's listed. And he has Babcock coaching good D structure. Leafs are doing the right things, admits this Habs fan

And being told by the NHL Commissioner while being re-awarded a franchise that it was contingent on them selling out their 14,000 seat AHL arena every night. Strong endorsement.

Do you need me to point out how many of the goalies on your list went on to play for other NHL teams after their careers were supposedly ended playing for the Leafs, or did that happen during the time you mention Winnipeg didn't have a franchise?

Great signing, and gets him out of the Pacific so can't complain about that! Anything that makes the Ducks worse is OK in my book! As for Toronto, Andersen can't carry the load obviously so I expect his numbers to dip this season unless Toronto does a lot of work on their D this summer. Leafs are trending in the right direction - just need to keep making good moves.
