Booyah!

Few defencemen worth trading for. Hopefully Zaitsev works out.

I like JVR...but he will get us the best return

Trouba, Dumba, Vatanen, Fowler or trade for high pick (and draft Juolevi)

While I do like JVR , he looks like he has so much more to give. He shows flashes,
then he just seems to kind of float . Typical " bigger " guy who doesn't really use his size. Pack his bags for me .

This is only my opinion but I'd only move JVR if Stamkos becomes a leaf. Then go after a big time D and adding a piece or two to get the deal done. Although the idea of dressing the young guys that we all think should be on this team may seem novel, without the vets like JVR it may get a little "Oileresque" to me. Without 91 in the fold it makes little sense to me to trade him. I agree that of the forwards they have that he would bring the biggest return though.

With the expansion draft rules a few will hit the market but d'men are always pricey.

Oiler-esque is right.

You have to keep JVR especially if they sign Stamkos....at least for this season while the kids get more experience.

I know he has a lot of value in a trade but the team needs him more now.

Plus, do you really think Stamkos wants to go to a team if he is only going to get rookie wingers to play with??

I don't. He would want to play with veteran talent...or at least one of his wingers.

JVR, Stamkos, Marner/Nylander. That's the first line I see Babcock wanting.

I really think that Anaheim would move Vatenen to Toronto without having to include JVR. The Leafs have enough picks in the next two years to make Anaheim happy.

I'm not sure which picks/ prospects would need to be sent to them. I think he would be a good piece to this defence for years as well.

Whatever the deal would be I'm sure they'd want expansion draft exempt pieces. Picks like the #30,31 and guys like Derrmott and the like would at least get their attention

BROWN
.......

Under no circumstance at this point should be moved!!!

Kids got a solid game to him as well as a good head on his shoulders and an unbelievable work ethic... why would you trade that? A Dman can be had for picks and lesser prospects... like Leipsic, Lindberg, Smith....

Brown will be a great pro... wait and see!

I see what you mean.. I just wanted to be sure he wasn't actually talking about Brown!

That would be a bad trade for us!

The price that Vancouver paid the Florida Panthers for Erik Gudbranson (a 2016 2nd, 4th and former first round pick Jared McCann) hints that a more offensively gifted Shattenkirk would cost the Leafs at least a high draft pick and a prospect for a player who could walk for nothing next summer.

I keep seeing the "lose for nothing" concern brought up... why would that happen? You pretty much have 2 possibilities. You work out an extension, and wait until after the expansion draft to sign it; now you've saved a protection spot; or you can't work out an extension, and you move him for something similar to what Yandle got at the deadline. First, second, blue chip prospect, roster player.

I don't think there is that much pressure on the Leafs. They want to make improvements on the blueline and goal to be sure. But they don't have to make a big trade right now if the costs aren't worthwhile. You already have some bodies to take into consideration with Zaitsev and Carrick deserving a look. Not to mention the guys that did finish the season. If we can add and have it be cost effective that's fine, but no rush.

Shouldn't move JVR unless it's for a huge return. With so many rookies likely to be in the lineup for the forwards, you absolutely need a top line player like JVR. We can't be the Oilers and have no one skilled enough to be in the top 6 who isn't under 24.

If the market is drying up and costs going up....don't jump in. It's dumb to pay more than we should at this stage of the rebuild.

Just bumpin' by. It's still nice to have a veteran presence to guide the young ones along. Think the Panther's style.
I honestly still think Leaf's getting Stamkos would be worth it. An instant captain to guide the team, which I think will be beastly in around 5 years. That'll put Stamkos at around 30 when you guys are potential Cup winners.
