Is it possible that TT was also a risk to be lost in next years expansion draft? |

Are the Hawks still looking to clear contracts? What about Hossa? I'd love to have him back in Ottawa |

I was hoping he would get more like 3-4 year deal? I guess it should be either 1, since he would have 1 more year as a RFA or a 4+ deal. The problem is if he puts up 20 goals he is going to want 3 mil. |

Can we say it now?
Due to the Blackhawks success, they gain an enormous new fan base. With that fanbase, came newbies (and newbie fan web pages) who were inexperienced in the differences of the NHL draft and the NFL draft.
After the Stanley Cup win in 2010, the new fans were looking for a draft pick who was going to take the role of their young hope.
They were fed the “we didn’t think he would be there…” standard draft verbiage.
And the PR team couldn’t help but discuss his skill and World Junior success.
The fans wanted to believe…we all did…that the 18th overall pick was gonna be more than a supplementary roster piece. A scorer is what we hoped.
If you simply looked at all the players other teams selected before him, you see he isn’t the only guy on a tightrope balancing between impartial success and mediocrity.
Only two guys picked after have stood out Olli Maatta &Andrey Vasilevskiy, and potentially, wonder kid Jimmy Vesey in the third round.
Hell, the FIRST guy picked will probably be with a different club after the draft.
The TT train arrived on wheels greased with hype.
I think they kept the pressure at a minimum.
TT was the one pushing for on the job training and NHL workload, and he got it.
It is unfortunate his body of work didn’t contribute to the team going farther than three Stanley Cup wins. (One assist…so no #5 overall scorer in the REAL season the matter, buddy.) |

It depends if we add another Froward and keep shaw then yes. There are going to be a ton of Good D prospects available since you can only hold 3, compared to 7 forwards. A roster has 7 D and 13 forwards so you can hold 54% of your Forwards and only 43% of your defenders so my guess is if they had to pick between TT or TVR they take TT since there will be less good forwards available. |

So Panik and the Lundberg kid are two of the five forwards needed, and they will cost around $1.7MM for both.

What a great day! All I need is Brian Campbell to come on down at a discount... |

Not out yet, but I bet it will be ~$1MM. He wants the at bat more than the money. |

Seeing as he has 25 in his entire career....I'd settle for 10
Hopefully Stan didn't give him a penny more than he made last year because he was already over paid at 975k |

.
The league will hold an expansion draft next June in which Las Vegas will select one player from each team, according to multiple reports. The expansion club must draft a minimum of three goaltenders, nine defensemen and 14 forwards. The league wants Las Vegas to be more competitive than previous expansion clubs, so the rules regarding player protection will be more stringent.
The Hawks can protect seven forwards, three defensemen and one goalie, or an eight combination players and one goaltender. The second option is available for teams that are blue-line heavy and would rather expose extra forwards.
The big 3 defenders, Toews Kane Anisimov Shaw, TT(gone) or Kruger & Hossa is a required save -Panarin (exempt). So all of them go protected ...
If you take the other route, and save TVR you expose ONE of the forwards...plus the defender they acquire to fill the criteria if that is indeed the case...and the other forwards no listed above...
Remember, they only GET ONE Blackhawk... |

Making conclusions from one interview about TT´s training habits is way off. But if you wanna make case out of that in last Powers interview TT said he is working out. So there you go. I see that TT was least of Hawks problems last year. Sure he couldn´t live up to the expectations that were too high anyway.
I will watch closely how TT plays with Canes. If Nordstrom had 24 point season with them last year TT will score about 60? |

Everyone on here has been banging the TT drum for YEARS....funny how quickly the tune changes!
That being said...sometimes things just don't work out. This is very similar to the Baertschi situation the Flames were in. He was being an ass-hat so they ditched him. Pretty simple! Fact of the matter is they clearly werent happy with TT, and needed some cap space. 2 birds, 1 stone. |

JJ,
I remember telling you the club was "showcasing" TT to the league late last year... so I am not surprised in the least....
Essentially a 2nd and 3rd rd pick for TT is not a bad deal. He's likely a top 6 winger on most teams...but he doesn't win faceoffs, go into the corners, or bang with the big boys.
I don't know why the fan base is so concerned with this move, he wasn't going to crack the top 6 in Chicago anytime soon and the $alary concerns of signing him after this upcoming year is now something the Hawks don't have to worry about. |

There wasn't much they could do.
They are still in cap difficulties, with only 15 guys signed and like 10 to 11 milion to play with |

Thanks!
I've understood the expansion draft at least 10 times, then immediately get confused again. Makes sense on where teams would target players:
3rd line F or 2nd pair D
Since there will be 30 2nd paid D men, they're going to gobble up the F's. |
