Great blog as usual!

I will be curious what your opinion is on the draft. I believe trading up is probably worthwhile in the long run, but if it doesn't happen (which is very likely) do they go for D, center, best available? Would the Bill Belichick method of trade down for more picks work out? Across almost all sports the odds of picking a good player is more in the numbers than the draft position outside the top 5 or so.

Excellent blog!!!

I really hope that "Captain Cardboard" has a bounce back season as well. We have to hope for that because we all know the "C" will never be stripped from his sweater. I'm not sure we could have done any worse as an organization from top to bottom.....so nowhere to go but up from here!

We will probably stay at #9 and draft the Russian defenseman. I'm not sure if MB is that creative or has the stones to do anything of worth?? I hope I'm wrong, but history tells us so.... stand pat and draft another work-in-progress project as usual instead of going with something at least a little more assured?

Like I said....I REALLY hope I'm wrong. We need to move up and get Dubois!

Moving up would be nice. The silver lining to the whole thing is that the Habs need help everywhere, so even if they don't trade up for one of the forwards they're still doing well in grabbing one of the D. There isn't really a bad draft decision position wise. Who they take and how they turn out is another story though

Depends on what the Habs want.

If they want a D, then trading up is a waste of assets, as there will likely be a very strong D to pick from where they are. Unless things change via trades (highly likely), the likelihood of a D being picked in the top5-6 is fairly minimal.

If the Habs want one of the forwards (ie: Tkachuk, Dubois) then I think they will be expensive to get. Jost or Brown or others in that range seem to be good options, as well.

Have have 3 picks in the top 45, so this could be a really great opportunity to build up quality assets.

I dont always agree with you, but this time I do. If they want a D then they are set at 9. But if they want a forward its either Dubois or I would think of trading down for more picks. They are seriously thin in the top 6 and the farm isnt exactly brimming with talent. There are certainly a few long shots at being top 6, but thats at best imho.

Brown seemed like a good option at 9, looks like they'd need to move up for him as well now though.

I think that aside from Matthews and Laine going 1-2, the rest of the top 15 will be full of surprises this year.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Habs go for a defenseman again, depending on who will still be on the board. Sergachev or Juolevi are interesting picks...as long as they stay away from Chychrun...

Are you saying that solely because his game slipped a bit the second half of the year or is there more to it?

It's not super uncommon for D to have up and down stretches, and the fact that he's physically well ahead of the others makes him a decent pick in my mind

Because he's a hollow emotionless person. He's like Toews but with far less (frank)s given on the ice.
