Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Asst Glen Gulutzan Favored for Flames Head Coaching Job Randy Carlyle is hired as the Anaheim Ducks' new coach, which means Glen Gulutzan will likely be the successful candidate in Calgary—and Travis Green should remain with the Canucks organization.

Kinda slow news on the Canucks front Carol, should be a good draft with it now being more of a TDL than the actual TDL. Here's to hoping.

"In his new role, Melanson will work in a development capacity with prospects in Utica and in the college and junior ranks after six seasons as goaltending coach for the Canucks."

Sounds like Melanson and clouts are basically just switching roles

Maybe they tempted him by offering up less workload and the chance to mold Demko?

I gotta say having been at Uvic this past year I'm kinda regretting not going to a lecture or two in Gillis' class. I bet he got some hilarious heckling

You are really reaching here...the odds of Hansen resigning with the Canucks is 0%? Good to know, I hope you have informed his wife and kids.
I'd argue that dumping a quality veteran for a 3rd round pick is extremely poor asset management. He is low cost productive member of the leadership group and still holds value even if he is playing on our 3rd line working with the kids. Also, some of the posters on here that are saying we should avoid signing a high priced UFA for 4-5 years are now advocating that we dump Hansen for a sh!t return and spend to the cap on a UFA winger. Is it (frank)ing Tuesday in the Middle East?

You would be right if this is the most we can get. But if we can get a pick in the top 45(plus a 3rd or 4th with it) then not trading him would be poor asset management.

Agreed, common sense comes into play. If the return is good pick or prospect they should take it. If only a 3rd round pick is being offered, hang onto him for the rest of his deal as I wouldnt count on the return being any higher than it is this offseason so moving him wont be worth it

If we can get a mid 2nd and a 3rd round pick for Hansen then I'm ok with moving him. I just fear that some aren't being objective about his trade value. Mcginn got a 3rd at the deadline last year. I suspect that's what we could obtain at the draft and thats why I'm against moving him. Teams horde picks this time of the year

For his contract I wouldn't move him for a 3rd.. I've read all the discussion past threads. It would have to be a 2nd + for his skills and contract to move him and then replace via FA

Mcginn was pending ufa. Hansen has 2 full season @2.5m. There is a big difference.

Sure, but he was traded at the deadline not before the draft. I think the whole discussion is irrelevant because the organization is very high on Hansen and he isn't getting traded now. Perhaps if we tank again he could be moved at the desdline
