I would really really like the flyers to move up in the draft. I don't think it would cost more then a 2nd, and I think the players available around 10 are of a much higher quality then where we are currently picking.

I'd consider a smaller move to about 13-15 to secure Bellows. That shouldn't require too much in terms of assets.

Think the next 18 days are going to see some real movement

1. Ben Bishop, Marc-Andre Fleury and Frederik Andersen could all be moved, with Calgary, Toronto and Winnipeg all looking for upgrades and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Dallas, Ottawa, Carolina, Arizona and Columbus looked to see what could be done, though those last groupings of teams have different challenges in getting someone new in there

2. I have changed my mind about what Tampa's gonna do with Stamkos; think they're going too look at the league and realize that a guy like that isn't just someone you replace. Moving Bishop might be enough to give them some space, but I could see them doing something bigger to try to get Matt Carle out of there and off the books

3. I read that the Rangers have told Dan Girardi that he's staying. But depending on how creative they can be with retained salary, I can see Rick Nash being basically given away if they can find a taker that he'll agree to go to

4. The Islanders leak nothing, but history shows Garth Snow is not afraid to trade guys, let guys walk -- and they are winning enough games where he has some breathing room. Still think they'll sign Nielsen, but Snow is kinda sneaky and I wonder what he's looking at for Tavares' wing if he lets Okposo walk

Just interesting stuff as we begin the silly season. Ready for it!

Get lost with this crap. We have draft picks to talk about who might make the team in five years.

There's gonna be less money to go around this summer and teams will be reticent about signing non-core guys beyond 2017-18... we could see much more action in the RFA, buyout and trade markets than before... maybe even a strategic offer sheet or two.

Patient GMs are going to rewarded even more -- Hexy's gonna be on a pillage.

Now, you know I like you as a poster, so please don't think I am taking a shot. There is absolutely no way I am fighting about hockey today.

But if the Flyers win the Cup in the next five years, you will be happy, right? You aren't one of those people who is miserable no matter what, are you?

Definitely think buyouts are going to be a thing -- is there a limit on them, per team? I realize that most teams aren't looking to buy multiple players out, but I just wondered if there was some kind of limit for whatever reason

I would like for RFAs to get offer sheets. In a capped league, that should be happening far more often than it does -- you should be made to account for questionable signings and extensions and be forced to manage

As I said, I totally expect an active trading period. I don't know how much expansion truly scares teams, but a flat cap means something has to give for some teams

He litrilly has to do nothing until July 2nd and he gets a big check.

If I were him, I'd hand in the retirement paperwork on mid-day on July 2nd on the way to the bank.

I have never heard of a limit to buyouts (other than ones in arbitration window). Like you hinted at, there is definitely a break even point between contribution and cap hits.

If there were any players that were offer sheet targets...id say the list would start with Trouba, Barrie, Kreider, Schwartz, Vatanen...and of course Schenn

Yeah, but after everything he has made...500k is a little grimey. Plus he said he would retire immediately after the season

I do admit I like what Hextall is doing. Hard to have patience when the drought has been so long, but I know it is the right way to proceed. We've seen where rentals/band-aids/high priced past their prime FA have gotten us.

It really isnt hard to be patient. Like you said...we saw how other plans work out so theres really no interest in pretending to be good for a bit when they can do it right and be really good
