Is there a scenario of any top 10 players taken in which the Devils should even consider trading down in a fair deal, or are they sticking to the best player available regardless in your mind?

The Devils could actually pull the deal off, by using their cap flexibility as an asset.

CBJ are tight against the cap and in danger of losing Seth Jones to an offer sheet. If the Devils took David Clarkson or Scott Hartnell back along with the #3 pick I don't think it would take much more than the Devils pick and a decent prospect/mid round pick to get it done.

This is what I see happening , preferably Clarkson , but I doubt Shero and Devils ownership want that salary .

I love Keller as a player, but if I we to find out that the Devils traded to the 3rd spot for Quenniville+the 11; I would be fine with that. It would be a real gamble on Columbus's part. It would make more sense to trade with Calgary, Montreal, or Colorado cause that would more or less guarantee they get keller/brown.

That said, between Edmonton & Columbus it seems lots of team are looking to trade down. I really don't see it being likely that they pull this off.

Very surprising to hear the #3 might be up for grabs. Pretty straight forward...

Pens trade Fleury + 2 2nds to Calgary for #6.

Pens trade #6 + Sprong to Columbus for #3.

Not really. CGY is not trading #6 for Fleury and a couple of 2nds. They would be MUCH more interested in trading up for #3.

I don't even think NHL16 would allow either of these trades!!

The price would be one of Q or Severson, not both, and a second round draft pick in 2017 going along with the swap.

Would I do it? Of course I would. Puljujaarvi has more all star potential. Although he was enhanced by Laine, he is still a very good player.

As CBJ, no, I wouldn't. If I was CBJ, I'd be looking at 8th or 9th draft spot. Eleventh would be a stretch. I wouldn't want to take the chance of both Brown and Keller being taken before 11 and being stuck with a D as BPA.

Yeah that's a long way to drop for Columbus. You are spot on with the value, if not more since going down that far not only costs an elite forward but also possibly gets Columbus out of the running for those centres. Cannot see it happening but would be a decent move if they did.

Though if they were willing to take on Clarkson's contract ( ) then they would likely save them a good asset.

Fleury is a solid pickup for Calgary who NEEDS a goalie but they are not moving him for the 6th overall pick. Those seconds do not help get this done.

We just traded for Marc Savard and a 2018 second round pick with Florida got rid of black and Thompson

With Clowe and Savard that's 10 mil in dead salary. Like picking up the 2nd rounder, but this is starting to feel like Coyotes East.

That's what Ray should be doing. If we got a 2nd for Savard, I'm interested to see what we would get for Datsyuk and Bickell. I've seen someone mention that CHI may include Teo.

Savard, Datsyuk, and Bickell would all be gone next year with assets at hand. And Clowe the year after.

A 2018 2nd rounder? Great. If Florida's team stays intact that's basically a third rounder.

I was more referring to the 575k salary vs the 4 mil hit. I believe the Devils were 2nd lowest in actual salary paid last year and are likely on pace to be bottom three this year. Seeing this ownership groups handling of the Sixers it is troubling.
