Glad RW had his chart to let me know that the Pens played well in the 1st and 3rd but poorly in the 2nd. Otherwise I wouldn't have known.

Didn't Fleury play really poorly when his new daughter was born? Or am I misremembering?

TIOPs had some obvious but good salary discussions.

In short

Rust = idiot. Already signed. Value would be triple what he signed for now.
Bonino going to costs typical mid 6 forward price. Ie $4 million per year.
Schultz - No one expects to QO him. Lots of team doing homework on him. I got no clue if anyone will offer $4/year, but he's taking a big discount if he signs sub 2.5. Granted if we didn't trade for him he would be looking at 1.5 on his next deal.

I don't think Rust was an idiot by signing his deal. He was much like Wilson and Kuhnhackl someone looking for a regular spot in the NHL. He was an AHLer just yesterday!

Anyone wanna take a guess how much Sheary will be looking for? I'd say about the same rate as the others, perhaps $0.800M?

I love Paul Martin's game. That said, I'm very happy with Daley's play. Schultz is someone I'd love to keep around too.

He had a great game last night. Like we said in the last blog, he has great quiet games and then something like that happens and suddenly he sucks.

Daley was huge. Hopefully his ankle doesn't take away too much off season training time for him. I have no doubts on Daley being back to normal though.

If we somehow get Schultz on a Cole type of deal I would be very happy.

Helluva game, not much more a fan could hope for. Line went down, money to SJ late, and series price was -125 PITT. Crosby 6-1 and Malkin 9-1 to win the Conn Smyth. Series to go 7 games 2-1. Needed that MT netter last night but it was a good start for those invested in the speed game over the methodical vets.

Wanna make a point. Much was said about the SJ forecheck and of course the concerns about the Pens D and how they would handle it. STL, Brouwer and BackAss especially, went into detail how good the SJ forecheck was post series.

Thought the Pens handled it very nicely. Noticed they reversed the puck (against the flow) behind their goal to the other Dman and a forward was always waiting on that 1/2 wall in their own zone and they got the thing out that way numerous times. In fact the first two Pens goals started that exact same way from behind their own blueline. Watch the replays.

That will slow the SJ forecheck down, the reverse flow, or how they attack it and I expect another wrinkle from Deboer and then a counter from Sullivan. Liked how the Pens stretch passed a bit to open the neutral zone. Important to get the puck out clean and have some space to rev up through the neutral zone......... Pens passed the first test in what I thought was a very important part of Game 1.

SJ run out of the joint in 2 of 3 periods. They must adjust.

I'm sorry, I'll need to see your comment expressed graphically.

I don'thate the data, simply that, in this case, you don't need it if you watched the game at all.

no one noticed baby malkins weight? Its a sign I tell you...its a sign

Yeah, MAF went into a tailspin it seems after he had his daughter, he admitted that things changed for him...that hockey games didn't mean as much and after a bad game, he would just go home and look at his kiddo and everything was fine again....im pretty sure thats why he got that head doctor...
