That ELC for Puljujarvi is gonna break the bank.

The Blue Jackets just traded their top-line center for Seth Jones...I think they'll find a way to make it work.

Johnson, Tyutin, Foligno or maybe even Dubinsky could be moved it they had to.

They aren't going to lose Seth Jones.

I feel like the Preds would want to part with Shea and maybe the Oil could find a deal there. (too bad that RNH thing fell apart last year)

and why would Seth be moved again?

While I think it's possible, I would make them prove it by putting the offer in

Because the Oilers can offer him much more money and the Jackets are at 68M on next year's Cap already

You're crazy if you think Columbus wouldn't insta-match $5.5M/year for Jones. It would take an offer in excess of $7M to even make them pause, and probably quite a bit more than that.

Could always hope for an NHL-style faxgate (see Broncos and Dumervil)

There's also a 10% overage in the summer they can use, and deal with it later.

Yes, they may have to move other players for pennies on the dollar, but they will not lose Seth Jones for nothing.

Do the Oilers really want Weber at what it would likely cost them?

Unless you are screwing a division rival, what is the point?

The Oil would likely have to go way high and lose a bunch of picks, and that is if Columbus doesn't match. If Columbus does match, all they have really done is p*ssed off another team.

Do the Oil want to pay him 7+, 8+, more?

Seth Jones will get $45m over 8 years. Nobody is going to fool around with their #1 Dman going forward. They will sign him to a long term deal and if they get him for under $6m. per year it will be a bargain.

If the Oilers want a #1 Dman they are going to have to do an old fashioned hockey trade and make a strong offer for a very good player. The case of Hamilton was the exception and primarily the direct result of a player wanting out of Boston.

I don't think offer sheets work for the Oilers at this time.

They have the resources to make a huge offer for one of the top Dmen in the league. The guy I would go after would be in the range of a Doughty. If it takes Draisaitl, Yakupov and the #4, I would do it. LA is caught in cap hell and they are going to need to do some rebuilding and losing of salary. Perhaps you can't get Doughty. But the Oil can get a top D like an Edman-Larssen or a Subban.

I really think Chiarelli is going to pull off a spectacular move.

It's an interesting notion that's for sure. I wonder however if part of the reason the Bruins traded Hamilton to Calgary over Edmonton was because Chiarelli was trying to strong arm him with an offer sheet.

I think if the Oilers offer sheeted for 5.5 the Blue Jackets would match. Having to give up more than that for Seth Jones (who is not yet fully established) could be a risk

If the Oilers can piss off Brian Burke with an offer sheet again, I'd love to see it...

As much as it would pain me to see Seth Jones play in Edmonton, I want CBJ's death and destruction way more. This would be incredible. No way it happens, though.
