Replace Stepan, Dubi, Callahan, and Abdelkader with T. Johnson, Kessel, Palmieri, and Kreider. Replace J. Johnson with Faulk and maybe Niskanen with Shattenkrik and all of a sudden the team is leagues better.

People sure have a high opinion of Kessel. Personally, I think it sucks he could win the Conn-Smythe because he plays against the opposition’s 3rd line and puts up points but unfortunately most people only look at the numbers and not the situation. $8mil for a 3rd liner. He should be putting up points.

Just like the Sochi Olympics where Kessel was named the best player because he lead with 8 points. He played on the 2nd line with Pavelski and van Riemsdyk for the first 4 games and then they became the 3rd line against Canada and Finland.
1g2a against Slovakia in 14 min of icetime – who really only had 1 line, if that...
1a against Russia in 17min of icetime
3g against Slovania in 13 min of icetime – I don’t recognize 1 name on their roster.
1g against the Czechs in 14min of icetime
0g0a against Canada
0g0a against Finland

So his scoring came against arguably the worst teams in the tourney and against those teams 2nd lines who had minimal talent to compete against NHL teams and yet he gets player of the tournament. It's a joke.

I've never seen the hate that TML fan's for one of their own players, that lead their team in scoring basically every year on the top lines, by any other fanbase for any other player. Get over it he's moved on.

This is why your franchise can't have nice things. Shame you're probably about to make another American superstar's career miserable for the next ~7 years.

If you'd watched a single Penguins game since March you'd see the effort Phil has been putting in. And for most of the stretch the HBK line was the second unit due to Malkin's injury. And for the first half of the playoffs Phill was getting more ice time than Malkin as Geno was getting eased back in and was still putting up points. HBK is the Pens' third line in name only. They're more than capable of going up against top competition.

I get that alot of talented players have been left off USA roster, but I guess everyone wants to have same team as Sochi, give or take a few guys.

US can't match talent wise to top international teams, so why not add some grit and "jam?", as Torts would say. Sochi team withered in medal rounds. Think adding Dubinsky and Abdelkader is to try and irritate opponents. Just ask Crosby what its like to play against Dubi.

I don't think its a coincidence either that many guys left off roster are still playing in NHL playoffs, or just finished. Maybe they were thought to be too tired to participate.

Why not go against conventioinal wisdom, and ice a "team" and not a sub par "all star" team?

Who knows, maybe we will be surprised!!!

I see your logic, but these guys are just not talented enough to either score on the talent that the other teams are icing or keep the puck out of the net. Jamming up can work against less talented teams, but that many stars just can't be stopped and now we don't have the firepower to even have an outside shot of matching them (talking about Canada, Sweden, and Russia for the most part).

Thing is we have the cogs to ice a superior team to Sochi. We could have a better coach in Laviolett, we could add T. Johnson up the middle, move on from Brown and Callahan on the wings and replace them with guys like Kreider, hell even Abdelkader is fine. We can move on from Brooks Orpik and Paul Martin on the blue line. We'd also have a chance at having the best goalie in the tournie with Schneider at the helm.

I think you take those steps and we are better than the perpetually underperforming Russians and are potentially head to head with the Swedes with an outside chance of being competitive with the Canadians if bounces go our way.

Most Leaf fans loved PK and if you cant say anything nice about another fans team why dont you shut your (frank)ing trap.

Mister lets get as many American players away from Canadian teams bullpoop bias when some of your star players are Canadian gets old.

He never ran your team down and am not sure how TO will ruin your beloved American born players.

Maybe point your finger at the asshats that give your team a bad name than us who don't have respect for you fanbase. If it really is the fact that most fans in TO are appreciative of star talent on your team, then get your vocal minority to shut the (frank) up and people like me will stop giving your fan base flack.

And apologies for wanting my countrymen to play for teams within my country. I'm sure if Crosby, Stamkos, and Tavares went up North you'd be stoked to have them back.

It's a joke. Schlubs like that make me sad to be a Toronto fan. If Phil was running the team and was responsible for the dearth of NHL talent that he had to play with (He played on a line with Joey Crabb FFS), then sure, give him some of the blame... to blame him for being the best player on an inferior team is bullpoop. And maybe he's a few pounds over where he should be*, but being 10lbs lighter wouldn't have made those around him any better.

*I also want to take this moment to remind people that Drew Doughty came into the league about 20-25lbs heavier than he is now, and at about 20% body fat. Talent is talent.

It has to be Kessel. Team Canada had some snubs, but it's such a talented roster that frankly...there is fair arguments for the guys that made it.

Team USA though? What a mess. Looking at that roster....sure that team couldn't use more skill. I'm not sure that team will even beat "Team North America."

I don't think Kessel minds that much though. This will be a long season (maybe a very successful one with how it could finish). I don't think anyone on the Cup finalists are that hyped about having to go through a short summer and jump into a tournament like this right before the season starts. A bit more rest before going into camp will probably be a good thing.

Still a big snub though.

Don't have respect for our fan base? At least we fill the building when the team is losing unlike the bandwagon that is Pittsburgh.

For the most part, your countrymen just aren't the top echelon of players. So it's no wonder that whoever gets the first pick is likely to be an American team picking a Canadian.
