If he was seeking $5M per year, no wonder he was traded. Florida did very well to get a 1st round winger on his ELC and 2 early picks to boot. |

Dan Spiegel: Erik Gudbranson Traded To Vancouver - spiegs13
Are the Canucks doing everything in their power to not have any picks in this coming draft between the 1st round and 7rh round? Just seems like they should be rebuilding instead of trying to win now at the expense of picks and prospects. Both Toronto and Vancouver should be rebuilding but Toronto has more picks this draft than the Canucks have in the next 2 drafts combined.
Not that Gudbranson isn't any good...but...Why add a player that can help you now when you aren't ready to win now? |

think of the money saving opportunities... the Canucks could lay off their complete scouting staff for a entire year.
additionally, they could put Gudbranson on waivers and try and sneak him thru- 'cause that worked well in the past. |

Quite a surprising deal, but everything happening with the Panthers since the season ended has been surprising.
Gudbrandson is a guy I always wanted the Pens to go after in the past, but the price Vancouver paid seems quite high. Seems like the ultimate sign of a new GM making his mark... trading away the first draft pick of his predecessor. |

While Gudbranson brings bruising, gritty play to the blue line, he also was a big favorite of the female Panther fans (yes, there are TONS of them).
Ha...you mean DOZENS of them. |

What is vancouver doing lol. On another note I always thought Gudbranson was what the devils had been missing since Danyeko and Stevens left but not at that price holy haha |

So as a 19 year old this forward played in the NHL. Does that mean he's really iOS or is Vancouver that bad??
Canuck fans, insight in this kid please? It hurts seeing Guddy get traded, there's no loyalty in Florida. Mickey Mouse organization does it again. |

Yep. He can bring it. He'll give up a lot of shots but he'll lay the lumber as well. - spiegs13
kipper thinks he's legit top 4 except he puts up numbers of a 6/7 physical D that do grow on trees. You pay 925,000 a season for guys that can "hit". Called Goons. |

McCann will probably put up 30-40 points in florida next season. He's got skills. I think Florida won the trade hands down. |

Is Gudbranson a top four or more of a bottom pairing d-man ? |

Gudbranson is a top two defenseman. He brings limited offensive capabilities, but on the pk he can clear out the goalie area as well as shutdown top offensive play makers. He is a one-way defenseman, but he is exceptional at that one part.
I know everyone thinks Florida won and maybe I'm wrong, but Florida gave up a hell of a player for the possibility of a solid winger. |

Top 2 defenseman? He was thoroughly out-played nearly all season and definitely in the playoffs by Alex Petrovic. And when on Earth did he ever shut down a top opposing play maker? He never saw the ice with those types of guys. |

He's a bottom 3 guy imo. Play him anywhere from 3 to 6 spot and never on the PK. |

No need to be loyal to the type of player Erik was. He's a big guy on D, of which we have several. It DOES leave a leadership-type void in the locker room. However, rumors were after this season he wanted nearly $5 million a season and I'm sorry, I'd rid myself of that future headache too if I was Rowe.
Now I love Gudbranson, he was a great guy. But we definitely come out ahead on this one. |
