Dog days of summer indeed when Tom Pyatt signing is the biggest news of the day.

Watched the matchup between the Huskies and the knights the other day. Very entertaining game. Perron had some good chances. Looked pretty good. More than I can say for their abysmal goaltending the past couple games.

That London team is just dominant on the PP and whenever their top line is on the ice. Marner looking to set some records. 5 points for Perron in 3 games is good, but Marner has 13 points in 3 games. Damn....

That line is ridiculous together.. it's funny to watch actually they just know where eachother are at all times. Tkachuk will be a very good player, think he's everything Canucks were hoping to get when they picked Virtanen at 6. I did notice Perron out there a decent amount thought he looked not bad

No thought on the EK rumour about E Staal? Sens could indeed use an experienced 1st line centre, but not sure he fits the bill. He seems to get worse and worse every season.

I don't expect Pyatt to have much of an impact. Not sure why the coaches had so much say on a minor league call up, but who cares really.

As good as Perron has looked, I've been less than impressed with the performance of Erkamps. Maybe it is unfair, because Brandon has played poorly overall. Maybe not even that they've played poorly. They just look over matched. I'm thinking Erkamps ends up being an AHL guy. Which is fine. Bingo needs some guys like him. He saw a huge jump in performance this year. If he can continue to grow at that rate, he could be a possible NHL guy. Keeping expectations low though.

I think this is another one of those things where the Sens offer him a very low contract because his value has depreciated. I doubt it happens. I'd be more interested in the WHY aspect. Would Staal be moved to LW? I can't really see him cracking the top 2 C positions ahead of Turris and Zibanejad. He looked very poor this year. He's 31, so no ancient, but his age regression seems to have hit hard and early. I don't think he's worth a high value contract at this stage.

Ya. I'm not sure what the angle is if it's true. I can't recall if he has ever played left wing before. I'd be weary of the contract, but I don't think he would be a terrible signing. He had a miserable year last year, but he can put up decent numbers. His showing in New York would have you concerned about regression though.

his damn article is confusing....

he says eric staal but mentions carolina and a steep price to acquire him.

so did he get eth wrong Staal (and they're really after Jordan) or did he get the wrong team (and he really meant the rangers)

or

is it actually bullpoop cuz it's an EK rumour

i vote for the last one.

I think he means the contract price. Not as in a trade price. Eric Stall will be a UFA, and will have a choice of what team he wants to sign with. I believe, EK meant to convey that Carolina will be moving on from the idea of resigning him, and that the Sens are putting together a contract offer.

I don't think Jordan Staal is part of the rumor at all. He's $6M until 2021-2022, and I don't think he's been rumored to be going anywhere.

True - his source might be Eugene, and in that case a "very serious pitch" might be whatever change his finds in his couch cushions.

I dunno. Marc Staal would be a decent add for the LD side for Sens. If the Rangers were dumping his salary or something....

I don't think we'll be seeing a Staal in a Sens Jersey any time soon.

I think Eric Staal at the right price would be fine. I doubt he'll sign for cheap, so it's more of a pipe dream.

marc Staal would be a solid addition to any blue line, but is no the top pairing guy since his eye injury.

Jordan Staal is just a problem situation.

Unless the "right price" was like 1-2 mil I wouldn't bother. At this point he isn't better than turris or zibby anymore.....he's probably around the same level as pageau (offensively) but pageau is younger with a great 2-way game so I'd rather give him the TOI.

Unless Staal is willing to be a 2 mil 3rd line winger on this team, it's a waste of money that could be better spent elsewhere.....see "dan hamhuis"

Sounds like Philips will be announcing his retirement tomorrow:

The #Sens will host a news conference at noon on Thursday, May 26, where defenceman Chris Phillips will provide an update on his future.

Not really fair to slam all over Staal and say money would be spent better on Dan Hamsuis. He wasn't exactly a bargain d-man in Vancouver.

Surprising news. Would have thought he would have sat out the year and collect his pay checks. This give the Sens some room to make an addition though.

Hamhuis would be a very good bottom pairing guy for the right price.......Staal probably isn't good enough to cracking the top six (unless he has a resurgence) and I'm not sure what he'd bring to the bottom six

Phillips was on a 2 year deal that spanned 2014/2015 and 2015/2016. He is not leaving any money on the table.

See, I'd agree with E.Staal at the right price, but not to play C. I really feel that this is the year that Zibanejad takes a great big step forward.

On paper at least...

Hoffman-Turris-Stone
Staal-Zibanejad-Ryan
MacArthur-Pageau-Lazar

Like, that's a pretty solid top 9 on paper isn't it? Am I overestimating what that group could do with the right coach?

If we sign Eric Staal, it will be at the expense of Hoffman. I do not care if Hoffman wants a 7/7 deal, that would be preferable to even a 5/4 one for ES. If Dorion is going to start off with that, you can count me out for this season lads.

Where were we on Gudbranson? The price was hefty but a Paul, peumple and picks might of done it. He's not a world beater but he plays a heavy game and is a fair hockey player.

EK - methot
Dion - ceci
Gudbranson - wideman, chabot, cleasson, borocop

Suddenly we would've looked very deep on defense.

For this offseason I'd like to see a brower or mcginn brought in. A bonafide top nine guy who plays both ways and don't look out of place in top six spot duty.

I see this being the only meaningful advancement we can realistically make this year, outside of Dorion channelling the aura of Tim Murray.
