Todd, who do you see as the best candidate?

On another note, just did some perusing on the Isle's thread and it looks like they would be happy to get rid of Halak....anyone be happy of trying to take Ho-Sang and Halak?

no...
If we are dealing for a tendie that is going to provide some reasonable level of term, it needs to be someone more capable than what we have. To me Halak is a slight upgrade from (a healthy) Ramo and I suspect if Ramo is willing to sign a deal just to actually have one. I'm not saying Ramo is the answer but at least we know what we get and he and Ortio (again assuming nothing happens trade wise) can get through next year...

Again the great caveat is the expasion draft. To me its the great equalizer in what is available and more importantly at what price...
I don't think we are anywhere close to being competitive, not next season. So ride out one more tough season and trade for a tendie when the market is more favorable...

What about going after Ho-Sang? Low risk high reward type of signing although the kid seem like a Douche Canoe.

It sounds like he's managed to f-up every opportunity given to him... What do the Isles ask for him?

What's the point of getting Halak? The Flames don't need a marginal goalie....I say either get a legit #1 or roll Ramo/Ortio. The only caveat for me is Reimer....I wouldn't call him a legit #1 but it's possible.

I would like to roll the dice with Reimer as long as his demands are reasonable. I am also cool with rolling with the Finnish duo for a year. Who backs up Ortio to begin the season? I have a feeling Ramo won't be ready.

So I talked to my sources and they say that he has worth. I am guessing a 2nd and maybe a C prospect. Or maybe a Klimchuck?

Besides the attitude rumours, its his size I'm worried about. he has about 10lbs on JG.

Really need to get some size on the top 2 lines and he's a player that wouldn't have any use on a 3rd or 4th line. So would rather see them trying to acquire assets there.

like...Lee maybe? with Okposo, neilson, Strome all needing new contracts. ,maybe?

for klimchuck no problem. But then again I don't I ever saw what people were excited about with him. Him and Agonstino I think will go the way of the neminsz. poirier will become the new backland....a slow growth.

But?

JG/money/Lee (or okposo? or whomever they pick up this summer, would like someone that likes to hit more)
JC(or ferly)/Backs/Frolik
Shink/Benny/Poirier
Ferland/Stajan/Jooris (bouma)

that wouldn't be bad fast scoring line, a shutdown line, a 3rd energy scoring line with sheltered minutes.

According to the Isle fans Ho Sang is a top prospect and it would take a lot to get him.

Still think Dal Colle might be an option however he is LW, also a top prospect.

I think Bennett needs someone that can feed him the puck. Not sure about that 3rd line. Is Mangiapane more of a playmaker or finisher? Just trying to think what is in the pipeline that might fit the playmaker role.

As a Canucks fan, I really hope they hire Carlyle.

Honestly, I think Marc Crawford could have been a great fit for you guys. Too bad Ottawa snapped him up as an assistant.
He handles young teams pretty well, has a history of success with Burke and is an entertaining post-game interview.

Yeah I mean it's stupid to just bury Bennett with chumps. Put whoever you want with Gaudreau and Monahan it wont matter. If the Flames got a guy like Okposo they should put him with Bennett!

I am wondering if they don't try and either trade up or trade down with the #6. Nylander is going to be a stud but he is all finesse and no sand paper.

and same with Ferland, Bennett moving forward
I think Nylander is definitely the best bet...he carried his team as a rookie
Tkachuk played with Marner and Dvorak...please...Nylander is a right shot RW

its a perfect match for us

The peak of Ho-Sang's value was a late first-rounder when was drafted. His value has only dropped since then (substantially in fact) and same with MDC's but MDC was a top 5 pick so he is maybe still worth a late first/early 2nd. Ho-Sang maybe a late 2nd/early 3rd.

The potential upside to both prospects has diminished significantly and neither has had very smooth progressions in development.

There are likely better options available in FA so I wouldn't bother giving up any substantial picks for these prospects who have not lived up to their draft hype or come close to proving they belong in the NHL.
